The New York Post reports that Mark Burnett is currently planning a three-hour movie adaptation of his hit History Channel mini-series, THE BIBLE. According to the report, the project will feature "recut scenes and extra stuff" and could be released as soon as this fall.
Commented the producer, "Clearly the big focus is the Resurrection. Very few people have ever done anything beyond the crucifixion. No one has ever seen Pentecost before. And the Ascension. And The Following trial of Peter and John. "
Burnett and wife Roma Downey will co-executive produce. Though no studio has been named for the film, Burnett assures the Post, "We've had many, many offers from theaters globally. Someone came to us [offering to show it in] 24 arenas." In addition, additional installments for television are planned that would be "in the same world" as the original series. "The Bible" was a ratings smash, delivering more than 100 million viewers worldwide for the History Channel. Commented Burnett, "For all those people who rolled their eyes three ago and said 'nobody is going to watch The Bible on TV,' we are glad they are wrong."Videos
