Bryan Singer Says Sexual Abuse Allegations are 'Vicious' and 'Completely False'

After eight days of silence, director Bryan Singer has released a statment on the sexual abuse allegations brought against him by Michael Egan III. Egan's lawsuit alleged that Singer sexually abused him in the late 90s in Hawaii and Los Angeles.

Singer's statement reads, via Variety:

"The allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false. I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from X-Men: Days of Future Past. This fantastic film is a labor of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I've decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film. However, I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shake down it is. I want to thank fans, friends and family for all their amazing and overwhelming support."

Singer's lawyer claims that "the director was in Toronto working on his first major studio film from August through October 1999." His lawyer recently stated that the Singer has credit card receipts, telephone records, and production schedules proving that he wasn't in Hawaii during the time of the accusation.

Aside from directing X-Men (2000), Singer has also directed X-Men 2 (2003), Superman Returns (2006), Jack the Giant Slayer (2013), and more.

His current project is X-Men: Days of Future Past, which is set to be released May 23, 2014.
