Michael Berresse ([title of show], A Chorus Line, Kiss Me, Kate) will appear in Universal Pictures' State of Play, opening nation-wide this Friday, April 17th.

Oscar® winner Russell Crowe leads an all-star cast in this blistering political thriller from acclaimed director Kevin Macdonald (The Last King of Scotland) about a rising congressman and an investigative journalist embroiled in a case of seemingly unrelated, brutal murders that lead to a web of buried secrets. Crowe plays a reporter whose street smarts lead him to untangle a mystery of murder and collusion among some of the nation's most promising political and corporate figures. The film also stars Ben Affleck, Helen Mirren, Rachel McAdams, Robin Wright Penn, Jason Bateman and Jeff Daniels. Berresse plays the mysterious killer responsible for the string of murders.

Press notes describe the film as "handsome, unflappable U.S. Congressman Stephen Collins (Ben Affleck) is the future of his political party: an honorable appointee who serves as the chairman of a committee overseeing defense spending. All eyes are upon the rising star to be his party's contender for the upcoming presidential race. Until his research assistant/mistress is brutally murdered and buried secrets come tumbling out. D.C. reporter Cal McCaffrey (Oscar® winner Russell Crowe) has the dubious fortune of both an old friendship with Collins and a ruthless editor, Cameron (Oscar® winner Helen Mirren), who has assigned him to investigate. As he and partner Della (Rachel McAdams) try to uncover the killer's identity, McCaffrey steps into a cover-up that threatens to shake the nation's power structures. And in a town of spin-doctors and wealthy politicos, he will discover one truth: when billions are at stake, no one's integrity, love or life is ever safe".

Michael Berresse received Tony®, Astaire and Outer Critics Circle Award nominations for his performance as Bill Calhoun in Kiss Me, Kate as well as an Olivier Award nomination when he appeared in the tuner in the West End. He was awarded a 2006 Obie Award for his direction and choreography of the Off-Broadway production of [title of show] at the Vineyard Theatre which transferred to the Lyceum theatre on Broadway in July. Berresse originated the roles of Giuseppe Naccarelli in LCT's The Light in the Piazza (Outer Critic's nom.), Fred Casely in the Broadway revival of Chicago (before taking over as Billy Flynn both on Broadway and on tour) and most recently appeared as Zach in the Broadway revival of A Chorus Line. Other Broadway credits include Damn Yankees, Guys and Dolls, Carousel, Fiddler on the Roof and The Gershwins' Fascinating Rhythm. Berresse was last seen on the big screen in Steven Spielberg's AI: Artificial Intelligence.
