Broadway vet Sharon Lawrence has been cast on Hitched, a new comedy pilot for CBS created by Josh Schwartz and writing partner, Matt Miller, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comedy follows a newlywed couple, Rachel (played by Kristin Kreuk) and Brett (played by Jack Carpenter) and their relationship with their friends and family. Lawrence is set to play Rachel's high maintenance, doting-but-nosy, mother.
Lawrence has appeared on Broadway in Chicago, Fidler on the Roof, and Cabaret. She is best known for playing Sylvia Costas Sipowicz in the TV series NYPD Blue. Lawrence played Maisy Gibbons, a housewife/prostitute in Desperate Housewives. She has guest starred in Caroline in the City, Boston Legal, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Monk, and played Amelia Earhart in the Star Trek: Voyager episode "The 37s." In 2009, Lawrence was nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Series for her portrayal as Izzie Stevens' mother on Grey's Anatomy. She also recently guest-starred on Community in the episode titled "The Politics of Human Sexuality". Additional credits include guest appearances on Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Mentalist.
