Deadline reports exclusively that 'Brooklyn' star Saoirse Ronan has joined the cast of ON CHESIL BEACH from Number 9 Films' Elizabeth Karlsen and Stephen Woolley. The film, which marks the directorial debut of Dominic Cooke, is an adaptation of the acclaimed Ian McEwan novel. Production is set to start this fall.
Set in England in 1962, the film centers on Florence (Ronan), "as one half of two young lovers, to the touching story of how their unexpressed misunderstandings and fears shape the rest of their lives. It is a tender story which shows how the entire course of a life can be changed - by a gesture not made or a word not spoken."
Commented Number 9 Films' Karlsen and Woolley, "It's an extremely exciting prospect to be reunited with
Saoirse Ronan on such a beautiful and heartbreaking project. This will continue Number 9 Films' tradition of high quality and prestigious adaptions that our production company is now renowned for."
Ronan, who received an Oscar nomination for her role in BROOKLYN, will make her Broadway debut this Spring in a revival of ARTHUR Miller's THE CRUCIBLE.
