Britney Spears in Talks to Join THE X FACTOR Season 2

People.com reports that pop star Britney Spears is currently in talks to join the second season of the Fox singing competition THE X FACTOR. 

While X FACTOR's Simon Cowell declined to confirm rumors last month that Spears may join the judge's panel of his show, sources tell People that the singer is currently in negotiations to appear.  Said the source, "There have been talks with Spears and her team. Anything is possible." A second source revealed, "I've heard they are in negotiations."

In recent months there has been wide speculation as to who would fill the vacated judge's seats of axed panelists Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. Among the names rumored to be interested have been Janet Jackson and Avril Lavigne. The late Whitney Houston was also among the stars under consideration.

Commenting on the possiblity of Spears joining the show, Cowell told reporters at a recent press conference, "Are we flattered that there could be interest? Yes." but added, "I've learned a big lesson: Keep your mouth shut. Don't give it all away."
