Deadline reports that Warner Bros studio has just acquired the rights to Howard Blum's upcoming non-fiction book DARK INVASION, which follows deadly attacks on U.S. soil. The book is set to be published on September 11th from Crown/Random. The studio plans to develop it into a spy thriller starring Oscar-nominated actor Bradley Cooper.
Cooper will produce along with Le Grisbi 's John Lesher and Adam Kassan. The 'true spy thriller' set in 1915 Germany takes place "with war raging in Europe and the U.S. still neutral, decides to send their Secret Service to America to wage a covert war to keep this country from helping the Allies. The Kaiser's spies bomb factories, sabotage ships, shoot JP Morgan Jr (a financier of the Allies), bomb the U.S. Capitol Building, and set up an anthrax lab six miles from the White House."
Cooper will portray NYPD Capt Tom Tunney, who's job will be to establish the team which will bring the German spies to justice. Tunney is considered to be the CIA's first head of homeland security.
The actor first gained recognition in the television series Alias. He later appeared in supporting roles in Wedding Crashers (2005), Yes Man (2008), and He's Just Not That into You (2009). He achieved fame with his roles in The Hangover (2009), The A-Team(2010), Limitless (2011), and Silver Linings Playbook (2012).
