In an exclusive interview, NBC's Ann Curry sat down with Brad Pitt to discuss his new movie, 12 Years a Slave. The film, which is already getting Oscar buzz, is the true story of Solomon Northup, a free black man who was kidnapped and sold into slavery.
"It's one of those few films that cuts to the base of our humanity," Pitt told Curry. Pitt also talked about showing his new movie to his children, and about turning 50. The exclusive interview will air on TODAY today, Wednesday, October 16.

Pitt on the film and showing it to his children:
Ann Curry:
How passionate are you about 12 Years a Slave?
Brad Pitt:
It's why I got into film in the first place. It's one of those few films that cuts to the base of our humanity...
Ann Curry:
You know, I have to say, when I saw the movie, I was reminded of Roots. When I was young I saw Roots and it was transformative.
Brad Pitt:
Sure. Yes, I remember, too,
Being riveted as I was very young.
Ann Curry:
Do you see this as
Being something that you will show your own family, your own children?
Brad Pitt:
Oh, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely.
Ann Curry:
Now?
Brad Pitt:
Now-- maybe my eldest I would, right now. I'd rather for the others to get a little bit older and understand the dynamics of the world a little more.

Pitt on turning 50:
Ann Curry:
So-- I need to ask you about turning 50.
Brad Pitt:
If you need to. (LAUGH)
Ann Curry:
No I don't have to. I'm more than 50, so I'm older than
Being 50.
Brad Pitt:
I don't-- so far I haven't minded a bit. So I have no complaints.
Ann Curry:
So there's an openness to it and--
Brad Pitt:
Yeah.
Ann Curry:
You're cool?
Brad Pitt:
Yeah. Cool? I-- I don't know. We'll see when I get a little clo-- I'm busy right now so I haven't thought about it. (LAUGH)
