"Halloween" scared its way to the top of the box office this weekend, with a $77.5 million debut. The Universal and Blumhouse film saw the second largest October opening weekend of all-time. This was a big weekend overall, with the top twelve films combining for over $160 million--the second largest October weekend ever.
"Halloween" earned an estimated $14.3 million from 23 markets internationally. The film still has 46 markets yet to open in, too.
In second place, "A Star is Born" added $19.3 million to its domestic total, which is now at $126.4 million entering into its third week in release.
Sony's "Venom" comes in at third with an estimated $18.1 million, adding to its total for over $170 million as it enters into week three.
Sony's "Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween," which brought in an estimated $9.7 million landing it the number four spot. Its domestic total is at $28.8 million after ten days in release.
Rounding out the top five is Universal's "First Man" with an estimated $2.35 million three-day and a domestic total of $30 million.
Fox's expansion of "The Hate U Give," which played in 2,303 locations secures the number six spot with $7.5 million for a domestic total that now tops $10.5 million.
"Smallfoot" ($6.6 million), "Night School" ($5 million), and "Bad Times at the El Royale" ($3 million), take the seventh, eighth, and ninth spots respectively.
Rounding out the top ten is FOX Searchlight's expansion of The Old Man & the Gun, which expanded to 802 locations and delivered an estimated $2.05 million for the weekend.
Outside of the top ten, Annapurna's expansion of The Sisters Brothers made $742,014 for a per theater average of just $650.
A24's limited release of Jonah Hill's Mid90s brought in an estimated $249,500. The film will expand nationwide next weekend.
