Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival Previews the 2019 Lineup Image

The Adolph & Rose Levis Jewish Community Center's Phyllis & Harvey Sandler Center proudly presents the third annual Judy Levis Markhoff Boca Raton Jewish Film Festival (BRJFF), March 10-31, 2019. Now among the top 10 Jewish Film Festivals in the US, BRJFF features the best narrative, documentary and short films from around the world. The broad array of films explores the Jewish experience, culture, history, identity and topics relevant to Jewish life with a diverse collection of over 40 international and independent premiere films from over 19 countries. A limited number of Patron, Sponsor and Festival Passes that provide reserved seating are now on sale, with individual general admission tickets being available in mid-February. Screenings will conveniently be held during the first 2 weeks at the Cinemark Palace 20 Theaters in Boca Raton, and the final week at Movies of Delray on Hagen Ranch Road in Delray.

BRJFF will commence with a grand Red Carpet Event for our Patrons and Sponsors to be held on March 7th at the Polo Club. The extravaganza will feature a premiere screening of the dramedy "Holy Lands" starring James Caan, Rosanna Arquette, Tom Hollander and Jonathan Rhys Myers. Adapted from director Amanda Sthers' critically acclaimed novel, Les Terres Saintes, "Holy Lands" is a universal story about love, family, loss and tolerance, told with incredible humor and heart.

The Festival opens on Sunday, March 10 with the Palm Beach County Premiere of the dark comedy "To Dust," this year's winner at the Tribeca Film Festival starring Matthew Broderick and Géza Röhrig. The opening event will be attended by South Florida local Director, Shawn Snyder and the star of the film, Géza Röhrig (star of the Academy Award winning "Son of Saul") who will do a Q & A afterwards.

The Closing Night film at Cinemark is the US Jewish Film Festival Premiere of The Bird Catcher, a Norweigan thriller about a 14 year old girl who had to assume a new identity as a boy in order to navigate her survival on a remote snow bound farm amidst the hostility of Nazi-occupied Norway. The event will be attended by the Director Ross Clarke and other stars of the film.

The final Closing Night of the Festival will be held on March 31 at Zinman Hall with a premiere screening of the film "Mamboniks," a film with a huge Boca and Florida connection. Surprisingly, many of Mambo's biggest fanatics were Jewish, a diverse, offbeat group of devotees whose zeal for mambo dancing earned them the hipster nickname: "Mambonik." Attending the film will be some of the local "Mamboniks." Following the film, there will be a concert and dance party with the Grammy nominated Latin band PALO! This will be a fantastic celebration.

In between these exciting films will be the most exhilarating films that you won't want to miss any of them. Just to name a few, we will be screening:

Golda's Balcony - a film of the original Broadway show starring Tovah Feldshuh.
The Unorthodox - a film that is one of Israel's biggest box office hits of the year.
The Other Story - directed by Avi Nesher, one of Israel's most renowned filmmaker.
King Bibi - about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Three official entries to THE ACADEMY AWARDS for Best Foreign Language Film will premiere at the Festival; Slovakia's The Interpreter, Austria's "The Waldheim Waltz," and Russia's "Sobibor."
