Some of Hollywood's biggest stars -- including Mary Tyler Moore, Hugh Jackman, Jay Leno, Amy Poehler and Carol Burnett -- will celebrate the birthday of one of the world's most beloved entertainers in "Betty White's 90th Birthday: A Tribute to America's Golden Girl" on Monday, January 16 (8-9:30 p.m. ET) on NBC. White's "Hot in Cleveland" co-stars Valerie Bertinelli, Wendy Mallick and Jane Leeves, along with her "Mary Tyler Moore" co-stars Ed Asner, Valerie Harper and Gavin MacLeod, will also be on hand to deliver birthday wishes, as will Joel McHale, William Shatner and many more. Immediately following the birthday special will be a sneak preview of the outrageously funny hidden-camera series "Betty White's Off Their Rockers," airing from 9:30-10 p.m. ET.
The special, taping at the Biltmore Hotel in downtown Los Angeles, will include special musical performances, surprise appearances and comedy, featuring the irreverent tone, spirit and energy that is the hallmark of Betty's six-decade career in show business. White will take the stage to share some memories and give thanks to those who've come to honor her.
From her first words on radio in 1947, to her current TV series "Hot In Cleveland," viewers will be taken on an unprecedented journey through Betty's storied career. Her work on game shows, talk shows, "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" and "The Golden Girls" will be featured, along with her work in movies and commercials. And most importantly, Betty will be saluted for her favorite role: making the world a better place for animals.
The special is produced by Brad Lachman Productions and Universal Television, with Brad Lachman, Jon Macks and Steve Ridgeway serving as executive producers.
Following the special will be "Betty White's Off Their Rockers," a hidden-camera comedy series that takes senior stereotypes and blows them out of the water with a cast of sassy septuagenarians who are hip, sexy and ready to party! America's favorite comedy sweetheart sends a fearless band of senior citizens to the streets to pull shockingly hilarious pranks on the younger generation in this outrageously funny "hidden camera" show unlike anything viewers have ever seen. White, a seven-time Emmy Award winner, will star and executive produce the series, adapted from the hit Belgium series "Benidorm Bastards."
From the moment the show begins, it's clear that White and her gang are ready to take the world by storm. In the vein of "Punk'd," the show delivers cleverly-crafted comedic stunts, candid moments and priceless reactions captured by hidden cameras. Sassy seniors are on a mission, targeting unsuspecting young "marks" with their irreverent behavior, from asking a young girl in a mall to sign a petition banning ugly people from reproducing, to having an older woman proposition a young man at an airport gate to join her in the "mile high" club.
As star of the series, the inimitable and charming Betty White will be featured in every episode in brazenly funny sketches, providing saucy commentary between the pranks and sharing her engaging, comicAl Pearls of wisdom.
Consistent with the fun, playful tone of White's persona, the international version of the series has been sold to more than 20 countries and has received many awards worldwide. "Benidorm Bastards" won the 2011 International Emmy Award for Best Comedy Series, and swept the Rose d'Or Awards, winning the Best Comedy Award as well as the Golden Rose for Best Program of the entire competition. In addition, the show won Best Comedy Format at the 2010 FRAPA Format Awards.
Chris Coelen, Matilda Zoltowski, Betty White, Scott Hallock, Kevin Healey, Tim Van Aelst and Tim Gibbons are the executive producers of the series, produced by Kinetic Content in association with Hallock Healey Entertainment.
