EW reports that Ben Stiller will executive produce a small screen adaptation of the 1994 hit film REALITY BITES for NBC. According to the report, the actor, who directed and starred in the original film, has received a script order from the peacock network. The comedy's original screenwriter, Helen Childress will pen the script.
The series will be set in the early '90s and follow "novice filmmaker Pierce and her slacker friends in Houston after their college graduation." No official casting announcements have been made, but fans should not expect to see original cast members Winona Ryder, Ethan Hawke, Janeane Garofalo and Steve Zahn reprising their roles. The 1994 romantic comedy-drama was shot on location in Austin and Houston, Texas, in 42 days. The plot centered on Lelaina, an aspiring videographer working on a documentary called Reality Bites about the disenfranchised lives of her friends and roommates, and to a certain degree, about Lelaina herself. Their challenges, both documented and not, exemplify some of the career and lifestyle choices faced by Generation X.
