Be The Match® and famed magician and leukemia SURVIVOR Jim Munroe are encouraging others to help Make Cancer Disappear by taking part in their expansive, social media-driven fundraising and awareness challenge. Launching today in honor of National Blood Cancer Awareness Month, the #MakeCancerDisappear public challenge seeks to raise funds to support research to eliminate blood cancer and blood disorders, help families dealing with the financial impact of a blood stem cell transplant, and sign up donors for the Be The Match Registry®-the same registry that provided Munroe his blood stem cell match and helped save his life.
People interested in participating in the challenge will record short, compelling and entertaining videos that can be uploaded on a multitude of social media platforms using the dedicated hashtag #MakeCancerDisappear. Participants can preview the instructional launch video from Be The Match® here and visit www.makecancerdisappear.com/the-challenge for a personal message from Munroe. Challenge entries should include the following:
Munroe's hope is to spread awareness about the important work of Be The Match, which conducts research to improve transplant outcomes, provides support and resources for patients, and partners with a global network to save lives. For 30 years, the organization has managed the largest and most diverse blood stem cell donor registry in the world.
"My hope is that through this challenge, we can reach people of all ages throughout the country and BEYOND and get them to see that they can literally, not just figuratively, make cancer disappear," says Munroe.

About Jim Munroe
Jim Munroe is an author, speaker and skeptic. After a promising career in baseball ended in a disappointing injury at the University of Texas, Munroe turned his mind toward investigating various philosophies and beliefs. This investigation into the unknown and the supernatural fueled his other passion: magic. Munroe loved magic. By 2009, Munroe had become one of the most sought after magicians in the world. He toured hundreds of cities and sold out concert halls and theaters at almost every venue. It was at this time, his journey took an unexpected turn. Everything turned upside down by a devastating diagnosis that would only give him months to live: leukemia. Through the circumstances surrounding his battle with leukemia and consequent blood stem cell transplant, Munroe experienced both a medical and philosophical miracle. Today, Munroe is the author of "The Charlatan" and a sought after speaker at conferences, corporations, and events around the world. Jim's story is widely recognized from its feature with I Am Second. Jim's show, "MAZE," has also become a great tool for Be The Match, which operates the Be The Match Registry, to recruit blood stem cell donors to its registry. Jim resides with his wife and two children just outside Dallas, Texas.
For people with life-threatening blood cancers-like leukemia and lymphoma-or other diseases, a cure exists. Be The Match connects patients with genetically matched donors, willing to donate life-saving blood stem cells. People can contribute to the cure as a member of the Be The Match Registry, financial contributor or volunteer. Be The Match provides patients and their families one-on-one support, education, and guidance before, during and after transplant. To learn more, visit www.BeTheMatch.org.
