Backlash From Kirk Cameron's Anti-Gay Remarks Continues

'Growing Pains' actor Kirk Cameron's recent anti-gay remarks on Piers Morgan's CNN nightly news show have caused a backlash from GLAAD as well as celebrities close to the actor. The 80's heartthrob appeared on Morgan's show last Friday night and shared his Christian conservative views, calling homosexuality "unnatural".

The actor, who played the role of Mike Seaver on the ABC sitcom commented, "I think that it's (homosexuality) detrimental and ultimately destructive to so many of the foundations of civilization." Regarding the idea of gay marriage, the actor said, "One man, one woman for life till death do you part. ... So do I support the idea of gay marriage? No, I don't."

Morgan defended Cameron's right to express his opinions, even if they were, in Morgan's words, "antiquated". The talk show host told TMZ that he believed Cameron was "pretty brave" to share his opinion. "I felt that he was honest to what he believed, and I don't think he was expecting the furor that it created."

GLAAD, the gay-rights activist group responded to Cameron's remarks, saying in a statement, "Cameron is out of step with a growing majority of Americans, particularly people of faith who believe that their gay and lesbian brothers and sisters should be loved and accepted based on their character and not condemned because of their sexual orientation."

Among the celebrities who spoke out against Cameron's statements was Alan Thicke, who played the actors father on the long-running family sitcom. Thicke posted on his Twitter account, "I'll address kirk's comments as soon as I recover from rush limbaugh's."

Tracey Gold, who played the actor's sister on "Growing Pains" also lashed out at the actor, tweeting,  "I am a strong supporter of the #LGBT Community, and I believe in equal rights for all."
