While in military prison and off his meds, Ian makes an extremely poor decision for his future while the rest of his family on the outside are struggling to do right in their own lives. As we lead up to the finale next week, our favorite Southside family is in the midst of some big changes in all their lives.
Still in her downward spiral, Bianca buys a $10,000 bottle of scotch since she really doesn't care about her credit rating anymore. Bianca's family arrives for an intervention to get treatment, but Frank assists in her hiding from them. The two wind up having sex on the train tracks as a train is approaching. Ironically, it makes Frank realize how much he wants to live. Bianca's family arrives at the Gallaghers to claim her, but Frank helps her escape so she can go to Costa Rica to die... and he goes with her.
Kev's re-entry into his marriage isn't quite as smooth as he'd like. When a pipe bursts at the bar, he and Vee are forced to clean up the water themselves as they can't afford a professional crew. Through a lot of confessions and anger, the two finally make up on the pool table.
The Gallaghers head to Military prison to see Ian. Sean drives the family there and Lip hitches a ride with Theo (Helene's husband). They all testify to Ian's bipolar disorder, but Ian still won't admit it.
Gus calls Fiona and asks her to go to his final show on tour. She agrees, but goes with Sean to the diner. The two eat and bond and spend an intimate night at the diner together, but nothing physical happens.
Helene invites Lip to a fancy cocktail party so he can meet her aerospace engineer friend, Norbert. The party happens to be in his neighborhood and it's a party talking about gentrifying the neighborhood. Lip heads outside when he gets frustrated and inadvertently bonds with Norbert. The two, alone with Helene and Theo head out for more bonding after an awkward run in with Kev and Vee on the street. Lip is maybe starting to see that he is growing out of his neighborhood, but is he going to have to leave it completely behind?
The detrimental Gallagher matriarch, Monica, shows up to visit Ian at jail per his request, apparently they keep in touch all the time. She tells him that his siblings nor Mickey will never understand him and she is the only one who will be able to take care of him. The military release him under her care and the two take off and hitch a ride with a random truck on the highway. When Fiona and family arrive, they are gone.
Mickey and Debbie decide to torture Sammy for turning in Ian. Debbie wants to roofie her, but Mickey already has and accidentally (?) gave her too much and it would appear that Sammy is dead. While Debbie has a meltdown, Mickey couldn't care less and puts Sammy's body in her moving crate outside that is to be picked up the next day. During the end credits, she can be heard screaming.
So in this the penultimate episode of the season, the Gallaghers are all headed for major changes in their lives. Ian is off with Monica which is no good for anyone. Fiona and Sean are closer than ever, but with Gus on his way back, is she going to have to make a choice? Lip is nicely fitting into this new life of his, but will that mean turning his back on his neighborhood? I'm glad Sammy is gone, she was pretty irritating. I hope it's a Trading Places kind of thing and we won't see her for a while as she is shipped out to a new location. Is Frank really going to get to Costa Rica? Does he genuinely care for Bianca? He seems like he does, can he put her before himself and help her die with dignity? Okay, maybe not dignity, but at least happy? Kev and Vee look like they are finally on the up and up, but one make up session isn't going to fix all their problems, they still have a long road ahead of them. My biggest concern right now is Ian and Mickey's reaction when he finds out. They really need to get to him quickly. Only one episode left. I have a feeling we're headed for some serious cliffhangers over the next long eight months!
Lines I Love:
Frank - I'd have sex with you anywhere it just seems that this location is fraught with unnecessary peril.
Bianca - I thought we were on the same page since I'm dying and you're an aging alcoholic with no purpose.
