Two deaths weaken ARROW. This one is a shocker.
Quentin Lance (Paul Blackthorne) continues to pursue ARROW (Stephen Amell) so Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) orders Ollie to keep a low profile. When a meta-human named Jake Simmons (Doug Jones) starts terrorizing Starling City, Ray (Brandon Routh) steps up to the plate in tonight's ep, "Broken Arrow." Keep an eye on the target. We'll get you caught up.
We open at the Starling National Bank where the power appears to be on the fritz. The two night security guards split up to investigate.
It's the villain Deathbolt. He shoots a beam of light from his eyes, striking the one guard. The other guard tries to call the police, but Deathbolt shoots a laser hole through him, killing him.
Quentin Lance and the rest of the police force can't be bothered with a murder/robbery. Roy (aka Arsenal, played by Colton Haynes) has taken THE FALL for Ollie, but Lance is still holding Ollie. Lances daughter Laurel (aka Black Canary, played by Katie Cassidy) informs her father that she won't be prosecuting him until after Roy has been tried. Lance has no choice but to release Ollie.
Felicity is working late at the office. Ray (aka The Atom) stops by to see why she is at work instead of at the side of her teammates (yep, he's figured out the Roy is part of Team Arrow). Oh, and he wants to clarify that when he told Felicity he loved her, it was with a small 'L" and not a capital one.
Ollie confronts Roy in an interrogation room at the station. Roy tells him the city needs Ollie more than it needs him.
Flashback #1: Ollie, Maseo (Karl Yune) and Maseo's wife and son are hiding out from A.R.G.U.S. Ollie decides to take the direct approach: he's going to walk into Amanda Waller's office and confront her.
Ollie meets up with Malcom (John Barrowman) outside Thea's club. Malcom assumes that Ollie set up Roy as his patsy (and he applauds it), but it isn't going to change the fact that Ollie's days as the ARROW are over. Ra's al Ghul has chosen him as his successor. Ollie enters the club where his sister Thea (Willa Holland) is watching the news coverage of her boyfriend Roy's arrest. She also thinks Ollie put Roy up to taking the fall.
Diggle (David Ramsey) and Felicity arrive to inform Ollie about Deathbolt (who apparently was committing crimes in THE FLASH's hometown of Central City before moving to Starling City --this despite there having been no mention of him on that other show).
Lance arrives with a search warrant to search the basement lair. "I've got you know, you son of a bitch," he triumphantly gloats when he turns on the lights to reveal the team's arsenal of weapons.
Only problem is, Roy's fingerprints are over everything and no one elses. All of Team ARROW seems as surprised as the Captain by this.
Felicity tells Ollie later that she wiped the entire place down with the exception of Roy's prints. Diggle tells Ollie the police will be watching his every move, so the ARROW can't dare go after Deathbolt. Felicity tells him Barry is busy with trying to prove his case against Wells. Nobody mentions Black Canary, but Felicity offers up The Atom. Ray is super excited. Ollie seems annoyed.
Flashback #2: Ollie breaks into Amanda Waller's office, but is immediately confronted by a soldier with gun drawn. Someone fires a gun from behind the soldier, killling him. It's Waller. She tells Ollie that they have been holding her for weeks. The soldier was army, not A.R.G.U.S. General Shrieve (Marc Singer) plans on releasing a bioweapon in Hong Kong and then blaming the Triads for it. She tells him to run and get as far away from Hong Kong as he can.
In prison, Roy is taken to the visitor's room. Thea is there. He didn't want to see her as he made a promise to himself that he wouldn't lie to her again. He tells her he will be fine. She asks if that is a lie. He hangs up the phone and walks away.
Ray uses facial recognition software to ID Deathbolt. Ollie is stopped from leaving the lair as ARROW when Ray reminds him all of the Starling police force are watching Ollie. Ollie argues that Ray isn't ready to handle a villain with super powers. Ray counters that super POWERS are based in Science (something he happens to know a thing or two about).
Ray tracks Deathbolt to yet another warehouse district. Deathbolt refers to The Atom as "the tinman." He blasts Ray and Ray goes flying. Ray blasts him back, but Deathbolt absorbs the energy and tells him "thanks for the top off." Deathbolt hits him a bunch of times, grabs a chain and starts choking him. Ray does the smart thing and flies off in retreat.
Ray returns to the lair. Felicity is freaking out. Ollie tells him he needs to trust his instincts and anticipate his foe.
Flashback #3: Ollie tells Maseo they have to get out of Hong Kong. Maseo informs him that Shrieve has more men in Hong Kong than Waller does. There is no way they are getting out. Ollie proposes stealing the vaccine.
Back at Iron Heights, I'm beginning to suspect that Roy is too pretty for prison. Roy is in handcufffs being led back to his cell. A bunch of inmates knock out the guard. "Let's see how good you are without your arrows," one of the inmates taunts him.
Turns out, he's pretty good without those arrows. He takes a cut to the back, but other than that he easily disarms the entire gang.
Lance is at Thea's loft with another warrant. Another office arrives to inform the captain that the POWERS that be are not happy with him "going all Ahab on Oliver Queen when a suspect is in custody."
Lance gets a call about Roy being attacked. He uses it to taunt Thea, telling her it is only a matter of time before her boyfriend takes a shank in the back.
Back in the lair, Ray and Felicity have figured out that they can track Deathbolt down by searching for power drains in the city. Thea arrives to confront Ollie. Ollie decides to break Roy out of prison. Diggle tells him to back off or Team ARROW will lose everything. Felicity tells him that he has to let people help him right now.
Flashback #4: Ollie and Maseo break into a warehouse. They steal a bunch of vials of the vaccine.
Lance visits Roy in prison, trying to reason with him. Roy tells Lance about the cop he killed while high on drugs. Lance still tells him he doesn't deserve to be in prison.
Felicity goes to a power station to upload the tracer. She is met by Deathbolt. She tells him she is supposed to check on the grid. She asks him about his sunglasses (seeing as they are indoors and all). He takes them off to reveal the radiation glow.
Ray realizes Deathbolt is drawing power from the station that Felicity just went to. He tries to call her, but Deathbolt answers. He has Felicity by the throat. While he is distracted by the phone call Felicity is studying her surroundings, though. He comes face to face to her and she reaches up and pulls a steam valve, blasting him. She runs.
Ray suits up and heads to the power station. Ray is allowing Ollie to controll the suit. They battle it out until Deathbolt disables the comlink. Ray is on his own. Ray tells Ollie Deathbolt is too strong. Ollie reminds Ray that he has the heart of a hero. The pep talk works and Ray kicks Deathbolt's butt.
In prison, Roy is confronted by the guard who was escorting him. The guard stabs him.
Lance is almost gleeful in telling Thea and Ollie the news that Roy is dead.
At the lair, Ollie is beside himself. Felicity and Diggle beg his forgiveness. Roy enters the lair. One of Diggle's men was the guard who stabbed him. Roy has faked his own death and escaped out of prison.
He can't stay in Starling City, though. So, Roy is essentially leaving the show for now (at least until Ollie can clear his name). Looks like a certain actor just became available to return to TEEN WOLF.
Flashback #5: They only lifted enough vaccine for Maseo, his wife Tatsu (Rila Fukushima) and child. Ollie lifted a phone from the lab and plans to stop them from distributing the bioweapon. Tatsu tells Ollie he has to learn to let people help him. She and Maseo will stop Shrieve and his men.
In Central City, Ray has handed over Deathbolt to Cisco (Carlos Valdes), who promptly puts him the in meta-human prison at S.T.A.R. Labs. Cisco does some snooping and learns that Deathbolt wasn't in Central City on the night of the particle accelerator explosion. So, how then did he gain his superpowers?
In her loft, Thea is looking at pictures of Roy and drowning her sorrows in a bottle of red. Ra's al Ghul appears in her loft. He plans to give Ollie further "motivation." Thea fights for her life, but she is no match. He stabs her and leaves her to bleed to death.
It's a final chess move. Ra's knows that Ollie will take his place now, if only to use the Lazarus Pit to bring his sister back from the dead.
