In the two hour penultimate episode of THE FOLLOWING, we lost a few main characters, but also set up for the ultimate showdown for the series finale next week. Will Ryan Hardy survive this series? More importantly, will Mike Weston?

Daisy meets up with Theo who isn't over the moon to see her as he only let her go on the promise she would disappear. Penny locates Mark and the four have a reunion of sorts. They want Theo to hack into the FBI to see who's using Daisy's laptop. Theo will, if they, in turn, help him locate Eliza. When they discover it is Tom who was the mole, Daisy and Mark find Sloane's dead body in his apartment and use it to blackmail Tom to get Theo back on to the FBI server and, also, to bring Mike Weston to Mark. Tom reluctantly complies. Theo pays a visit to Eliza and she accepts his deal to disappear he and Penny without a trace in return for killing Ryan Hardy. Her only condition is that her identity or existence is never revealed.

Max and Mike both are on Ryan to get himself together, but he keeps sneaking drinks here and there. They track Theo's sister to the crackhouse and are able to get a location on her dealer. When Penny decides to "score," Ryan and Max pounce, but lose her. Max goes back to the office, but Ryan actually did catch her and has decided to torture her for Theo's whereabouts. Theo hacks into traffic cameras and sees Ryan kidnap her. When Tom delivers Mike Weston to Mark, Theo stops Mark from killing him so he can use Mike as bait to get Penny back. Done with his part, Tom goes to leave, but is immediately killed by Daisy. Max has figured out that Tom is the mole and tracks Mike's cell phone to the warehouse, but they have already gone.

Max and her new boss, Lisa, go to visit Ryan and find him drunk again. Lisa and the team leave, but Max stays behind and catches Ryan with Penny. Since the FBI server is compromised, it is up to Max and Ryan to rescue Mike. Ryan receives the call from Theo to meet up in an empty theatre. (They're in New York, it's only appropriate). Theo handcuffs Mike to a dead dude on stage and Ryan handcuffs Penny to the aisle. Daisy tries to shoot Mike, but Max stops her. The chase begins and all seem to be getting away, when Penny decides she wants to get back at Ryan. Theo tries to stop her, but Ryan guns her down. Ryan knows that by killing Penny, he basically is dead too as Theo will stop at nothing to kill him. Gwen pays a visit to Ryan and he apologizes for everything. She tells him she's pregnant and he needs to become a man so he can be a father. Ryan goes to an AA meeting and he watches Joe's "Ghost" disappear.

Mike finally confesses his undying love to Max and the two are about to live happily ever after when Mark shows up in the garage and stabs Mike. Mike is able to shoot him dead before he can kill Max, but Mike is dying.

And with that? We are down to one last two hour episode of THE FOLLOWING. I don't know if the writers were prepared to be cancelled and we will get a finale or a cliffhanger, but I sure hope it's the former. Maybe they shot both just in case? Do shows do that? And listen... I know there aren't exactly a lot of "survivors" on this show? But I will be really upset if Mike Weston dies. He's like this show's conscience. And dammit, Max deserves some happiness. I know that both Theo and Ryan aren't surviving the series, so I'm hoping that it's Theo. He has been a worthy adversary, but we're always going to pick our anti-hero, Ryan. However, it would be pretty ballsy of FOX to kill off Kevin Bacon. I guess we'll see next week how this show will leave us.
