Tonight's OUTLANDER picked up right where Episode 12 left off, which was great, because last week's 'Lallybroch' ended with one doozy of a cliffhanger. Three guys pulling pistols on Jamie, the Laird of Lallybroch, mind you, in his own home! Well, I never! Before the situation can escalate any further, Jenny walks in, clearly unfazed by the scene in front of her. Not only that, but she seems to know the pistol-wielding intruders. They may be friendly, but not that friendly, because Jenny introduces Jamie to them as her cousin. Jamie catches on quickly, calling himself MacTavish. One of the newly arrived crew tells Jenny that they thought Jamie was a robber--because what else could Jamie possibly be, right?--so, heh, sorry for the misunderstanding.

Turns out the trio, led by a man named MacQuarrie, are members of the Watch--news that doesn't do much to lift Jamie's spirits. Actually, I think he liked them better when they had pistols pointed at his head. He's worried that they'll sell him out to the Redcoats. That old "price on me head" thing. Poor Jamie. Will things ever settle down for you and your new wife? No, probably not. Sorry, laddie, your life's a TV show. Them's the breaks. The Watch boys--that's what I'm going to call them, because if you think I figured out each of their names, you're wrong--join the Murrays and the Frasers for an extremely awkward dinner. How many of those has Claire had to sit through since falling through the stones, by the way? The menfolk swap war stories, because that's always fun, until MacQuarrie brings the mood down considerably by pointing out that Ian's never mentioned Jamie before. Kind of weird, isn't it? He's a suspicious dude; meanwhile, the other two are incorrigible and totally rude-putting their feet up on the table, smoking Ian's tobacco, lighting their hay on fire. I mean, you just cannot take these guys anywhere.

To make matters even worse, Lallybroch receives one more not-so-welcomed guest. Someone we've heard mentioned before, wayyyy back in the mid-season finale, if you'll travel back with me. Horrocks. AKA a man who not only knows what Jamie looks like, but also that he has a price on his head. Uh oh. When Horrocks arrives, he and Jamie instantly recognize each other, but don't say anything. The Watch boys certainly don't need to know their history. That would be very bad. So the moment Jamie gets him alone, he takes the opportunity to suss out exactly where Horrocks' head is at. As it happens, all Horrocks really wants is to sail to the colonies-which makes plenty of sense, the guy already looks like a pirate anyway. He just needs money. Don't we all. If Jamie gives it to him, thus paying his way to Boston, he'll keep quiet and, even better, disappear from Jamie's life forever. Ian thinks he can help out with that, and tells Jamie to take the money Papa Fraser had left behind for Jamie's family. Jamie reluctantly agrees and meets Horrocks in the woods for the transaction. And, of course, what happens, boys and girls? What we all knew would happen: Horrocks tells Jamie he needs even more money. So yeah, okay, maybe that was a little predictable, but did anybody see that stab through the chest coming?! Because I didn't! I'm sorry, but that was wild. And, sure, a bit satisfying, because Horrocks wasn't very nice.

Meanwhile, what has Claire been up to all day? Oh, y'know, just helping the sister-in-law she just met, like, twenty minutes ago give birth. Your average day, really. If the family dinners had been awkward, you can only imagine how this went down. But Jenny and Claire seem to have grown much closer since their very first meeting. Ha. Well. Obviously. But even before Jenny goes into labor, their relationship is much more relaxed. The two bond while doing laundry, as you do, mostly chatting about Jenny's pregnancy. Jenny thinks she's having a boy, a new wee lad soon to be frolicking around Lallybroch, won't that be grand. And it's like the baby can actually hear Jenny talking about it and wants to prove her wrong, because right then and there, her water breaks. And surprise, it's a girl.

While the new baby Murray is being brought so delicately into the world, her dad and Jamie are off with The Watch boys--who, as it turns out, never liked Horrocks anyway. MacQuarrie was totally cool with Jamie killing him...even though it was really Ian, but eh, details. When they reach the exact spot for the ambush they had planned, however, Jamie is immediately suspicious. The location is perfect for an ambush, alright, but as soon as the thought enters his head, bam! Redcoats everywhere! An ambush, indeed! Chaos ensues, and in the end, Ian finally makes it home to Lallybroch...without his peg leg, and without Jamie. Dun dun dun.
