The title says it all. On this week's PARENTHOOD, which happens to the series' 100th, we're introduced to the beginning of the end, as a lot of loose ends are tied up... or at least starting to tie up... and surprisingly, new ones reveal themselves.

Of course, the big story this week - Zeek has a heart attack and is rushed to the hospital, where

the entire family gathers in support of their father/grandfather/father-in-law. In a particularly touching scene, wherein the family is allowed to see Zeek for the first time post-operation, a myriad of machines begin beeping, Joel, Julia, and Camille are pushed out of the room, and Zeek's wheeled out. Turns out he'll be doing better thanks to some stents put into his heart, but not for long, as the doctor suggests another open heart surgery to permanently fix the problem with his heart (something that could be very dangerous as he's progressively weaker). Honestly, I think they're just delaying the inevitable here, but it's nice to build an actual story around it, SPOILER ALERT: rather than just have him die for no reason. (Spoiler alert for people who don't know what's happening up til now... I don't, it's just a guess, but it's not looking good).

Also in the news this week: after the Luncheonette is burglarized, and the insurance payment is pretty modest, Adam and Crosby are faced with the decision to close the business for good. Each mull it over with their spouse; Jasmine pushes Cros to continue his dream, and Kristina's in support of Adam closing the business, so there may still be a little bit of tension.... although it's kinda resolved in the end over a beer, I still think there's gonna be some uneasiness with the fact that each of them is supporting the opposite cause... just hope it can be worked out in the next THREE episodes!!

Of course, too, the relationship with Joel and Julia really showed great progression this week, as did Hank and Sarah. Hank's trying so hard to insert himself into the family, desperate to show Sarah he cares; Joel's killing it with backing up his claim of never letting Julia go again (how AWESOME was that "He's my husband" line, btw?!) Hank ends with a proposal; it's put on hold while Sarah deals with her father and Amber and the baby shower (SOOO SWEET!), but I do so hope she says "yes." Hank's a good guy.

And nope, I'm not the only one who thinks this. As shown tonight, the relationship of the week is between Hank and Drew. Hank starts out awkwardly trying to connect with Drew on a personal level - Drew's distant 'cause he's dealing with his grandpa and secretly harboring that he's upset that Hank's dating his mom (or is he?) - but it later develops into a deep, honest conversation about the jerks Sarah's dated, and how Drew's really upset about the last things he said to Zeek. Hank's totally there for him - it's a huge wave of support, and great character depth between the two men. After all the losers Sarah's dated and the hell it's put Drew through, it's nice to see him actually talk with one of them (and the one that might stay).... and like him.... and admit it TO him! For that reason, this one wins the relationship of the week. :-)

A solid episode this time out, despite the somberness of the overall subject matter. Hey, what did I say? It was the beginning of the end.

P. S. The editors are killing it with the montages this week! LOOOVED every one of them! Beautifully done! This is why I love this show!
