Following last week's premiere, THE ORIGINALS slowed it down a bit as our second favorite brotherly duo (#salvatoresforever) find out that their parents are alive. What will they do when they find out Kol and Finn are back too? And what kind of a venue would accept that family reunion?

With a series of flashbacks we gained a little bit more insight into Kol's relationship with his brothers. In short, they don't really care for him as he got staked, a lot! In Klaus and Elijah's defense, he's not the greatest little brother. He was not a fan of Marcel at all, even subjecting him to a very literal version of "Hamlet" at a young age. The White Oak Stake has been used continuously on Kol and yet, he still manages to come back to life.

Hayley is still moody in her new hybrid state. Klaus encourages her to try and reconnect with her pack, go back to her roots. Oliver has assumed the leadership and is skeptical, naturally, especially when Klaus puts his foot on his neck to convince him to give her a chance.

Davina still has Mikel under control until she gets into a little bind (set up by Cassie/Esther) and frees him to save her life. Losing her control bracelet in the scuffle, Mikel is almost able to walk free to kill Klaus. But thankfully, Elijah shows up and is, well, none too pleased to see Daddy dearest. Davina finds her bracelet and again locks Mikel up and disappears.

Back at the graveyard (greenhouse?) Kaleb/Kol is irritated that his being in danger was all part of Cassie/Esther's plan because now Davina will be drawn closer to him. Vincent/Finn knew about it and didn't say anything. With that, Kaleb/Kol decides to withold the pertinent information that Mikel is back.

Klaus is having problems of his own as he goes to the graveyard to confront this Cassie witch that is causing all sorts of drama in the quarter. She has tea with him and after repeatedly calling him Niklaus and serving him chamomile tea, he figures out that she is his mother, Esther. So now, it's up to the Menendez Mikelson brothers, which parent to kill first?

Now that they know where the White Oak stake is, Marcel tries to enlist Elijah to join his team since Klaus joined "Team Wolf." (made me giggle since TEEN WOLF alum, Daniel Sharman is playing the new Kol). With that, Marcel snaps Gia's neck, his newest recruit and leaves her body with Elijah to mentor.

There are a lot of dual actor/characters floating around. There's past Kol who's present Kaleb, there's past Esther who's present Cassie and there's past Finn who's present Vincent. And in the flashbacks, Kol is played by the original actor, Nathaniel Buzolic, but present Kaleb/Kol is played by Daniel Sharman. It's all quite confusing. Thankfully, Mikel is still Mikel. Well, not thankfully, he's still a monster.

And my poor sweet, Elijah. It seems that he has been doomed to an existence of always sacrificing his own happiness to better others. In the past, he treated Marcel poorly to try and further the bond with Marcel and Klaus. Now, is he doing the same thing with Hayley and Klaus? It's funny, on THE VAMPIRE DIARIES, I am much more drawn to Damon, the bad guy with the heart of gold (#issues) and Stefan doesn't do anything for me. But here, I am drawn to Elijah, the nice guy who can't catch a break. I won't say Klaus does nothing for me, I am human, but nothing compared to Elijah. I should probably look into therapy.

What I Know:

  • Kol's kind of a wanker.

  • Finn has a touch of an Oedipal complex.

  • Even though he never seems to truly die, every time Kol dies, it's pretty satisfying.

What I Don't Know:

  • Why is Hayley being so nasty to Elijah? He is, um, the best thing in her life? #notbiased

  • We still don't know who Klaus' father is, right? Is that going to factor in at any point?

  • Why in the past is Kol's accent British and now Kaleb/Kol's accent is Scottish? Welsh? Not the same?

Lines I Love:

  • Kaleb - Ah, not creepy at all watching me on my own date.

  • Vincent - If you think someone has a weapon, you provoke them into using it.

  • Klaus - What could possibly be more important than the return of our mother? Elijah - Our Father?

No Camille this week, which is okay as she's kind of plotless at the moment. And I'm wondering if Gia is going to be another hurdle for the Elijah/Hayley romance. Fight scene in the bar aside, I thought this week was a little slow. Was this episode a little lackluster for you as well? Sure, there was one awesome scene, but after last week's action packed premiere, this one was a little bit of a downer. Or is it just me? What did you think?
