DC Comic heroine Dr. Light enters THE FLASH and may not have the best of intentions. What's more, her Earth 2 alterego might just be someone whom we already have met on Earth 1. We've got our running shoes on and we'll get you caught up in a flash.
Hopefully, the existance of multiple universes hasn't confused you to the point you're turning off THE FLASH. We open with a flashback on Earth 2 and S.T.A.R. Labs where Harrison Wells (Tom Cavanagh) is the Steve Jobs of his universe. He's unveiling an Apple-esque line of products (tablet, watch, etc.) that will assist the user in detecting the presence of evil meta-humans. Wells' watch goes off and Earth 2 Flash (aka Jay Garrick, played by Teddy Sears) speeds in to accuse Wells of causing the rash of meta-humans courtesy of some illegal testing that was done at S.T.A.R. labs. This includes Zoom, the villain (voiced by Tony Todd) who is hellbent on killing Earth 1's FLASH (Barry, played by Grant Gustin). Wells tells Jay to do his job and catch Zoom. Jay angerly speeds off.
Back on Earth 1, Wells is at S.T.A.R. labs and thumbing through an autobiography of his late Earth 1 self. Cisco (Carlos Valdes) and Caitlin (Danielle Panabaker) try to bring Wells (and the audience) up to speed: Earth 1 Wells was killed last season by Reverse Flash before Reverse Flash assumed his looks and identity. RF also killed Barry's mom before he was erased out of existance when his great-great-grandfather Eddie Thawne (Rick Cosnett) purposely killed himself and altered the future. Wells' reaction is priceless: "Yeah, I didn't follow any of that."
Team Flash still doesn't know if they should trust Earth 2 Wells (despite him saving Barry at the end of last ep). Wells is there to stop Zoom (whom Wells admits he created). Det. Joe West (Jesse L. Martin) is late to the party and, upon seeing Wells, fires three shots (Barry quickly catches each of the bullets). Barry debriefs Joe and Joe leaves to go fill in his daughter Iris (Candice Patton).
Iris is chumming with fellow journalist (and Barry's ex) Linda Park (Malese Chow) when Joe arrives. He is surprised that she takes the news that a version of the guy whom her fiance killed himself to stop is now kicking it in Central City. He hands her a gun and tells her that's why he showed her how to use it. Is the sun shining directly over Iris as she is holding the number after three, 'cause this is foreshadowing.
Barry and Cisco are in line at the only coffee shop in Central City when Patty Spivot (Shantel VanSanten) happens to overhear them discussing Wells and time travel. She asks them if there is a meta-human that can time travel and Barry hail mary's with "time travel's not real." Cisco would almost care that she almost overheard them, but he is too busy making eyes at Jitters' latest barista Kendra Saunders (aka Hawkgirl, played by Ciara Renee). Barry dares him to ask her out and he does in the most awkward way possible. She shoots him down. He turns from her and has one of his visions. In it, Dr. Light is robbing a bank. He tells Barry to race to the bank. Barry stops her mid-heist.
Wells briefs the team and this Dr. Light differs from her comic book counterpart (who fights alongside the Justice League). On Earth 2, she was a small time thief until she was exposed to Wells' dark matter. She has the power to harness energy from star light. Wells plan is to capture Dr. Light and use her to lure Zoom there. Jay arrives and the two Earth 2 rivals tango again. Barry is less concerned with Jay and Wells' spat than he is about how Cisco knew about the robbery as it was happening. Cisco quickly changes the subject.
Wells uses his downtime to read up on his Earth 1 counterpart. Much to the chagrin of Cisco, it's in his office and on his computer without even asking. Wells dives into why Cisco can't look at him. Cisco tells him Earth 1 Wells shoved his vibrating hand into Cisco's chest and stopped his heart. The only reason he's alive is Barry traveled back in time and erased that timeline from happening. Wells seems a little too interested in learning this. He's also checking his meta-human watch the whole time. Me thinks Wells knows Cisco's secret.
Team Flash has tracked down Dr. Light. Barry races to the bank vault she is breaking into. He reasons with her. She's removes her mask and...it's Earth 2's version of Linda Park. When he recognizes her by name, she blasts him with bright light (blinding him) and runs away.
Though his eyes will heal, it won't be in time for his date with Patty that night. Cisco outfits him with a pair of sunglasses with a camera built in and feeds Barry lines like a modern Cyrano.
Caitlin and Jay are also getting close, courtesy of the stake out they are on (they are watching to make sure Dr. Light doesn't try to kill her Earth 1 counterpart. Jay tells her not to trust wells (Wells did, after all, make money selling gadget to detect meta-humans that he had a hand in creating). She's more interested in hearing about differences between Earth 1 and 2. He tells her Atlantis is above water in his world and he has a friend from there (shout out to Aquaman!). They are about to kiss, when Dr. Light blasts them. Light then enters the newspaper and tells Linda she's hear for Linda's life. She's about to blast her when Linda's editor comes at Dr. Light with a letter opener. Her light slices through him. Iris takes the gun that her father gave her earlier and shoots off Dr. Light's mask. Linda is freaked out at seeing her murderous double. Dr. Light flees, leaving behind her mask.
Barry's date is going better than Caitlin's. He actually gets to smooch Patty. His eyesight returns while they are kissing. Both their cells go off, alerting them to the situation at the newspaper. They both arrive to Linda in total shock. Her editor is dead and she watched her double kill him.
At the lab, Wells is quick to blame this all on Jay. Jay has had enough and the pair duke it out until Barry pulls them apart. Barry lets it slip that they have Dr. Light's mask. Wells pushes Cisco out of the meta-human closet and tells Team Flash that Cisco can use it to find Dr. Light because he has powers. His watch proves it.
I echo Cisco's earlier statement in this episode: Earth 1 Wells might have been evil, but Earth 2's Wells is just a dick.
Caitlin assures Cisco though the powers came from dark matter, there's no way he will become evil. Ironic moment of the night is when she says "I don't think any of us would become evil if we suddenly got super powers." Either this Caitlin or another multiverse Caitlin is the villain known as Killer Frost and photos of Panabaker in the character's outfit were leaked.
Wells tells him to help them find Light by touching the mask. Cisco does, but nothing happens. Wells gets angry and plunges the mask at Cisco. It happens to be in the spot where Earth 1 Wells stopped his heart. Cisco sees Light at the train station and Barry races off to catch her.
She blasts him. Wells tells him to run so fast he creates a speed mirage. He does, but she is still able to blast him, Jay pipes in that Wells is right. Barry is better and faster than Jay ever was. It is the pep talk he needs. He creates so many verions of himself for her to target, he is able to sneak up on her and throw her into a beam, knocking her out.
Back at S.T.A.R., Dr. Light is imprisoned in the meta-human cells and Barry has decided to take Wells' advice and user her as bait. Jay still thinks it is a bad idea. He tells Barry he can't help him in a plan that could get Barry killed. Jay still wants to know why Wells --who for years denied he had anything to do with the creation of meta-humans or Zoom on Earth 2--is suddenly on Earth 1 presenting himself as a savior. He warns Team Flash that this Wells has just as many skeletons as theirs did.
At Jitters, Cisco is grabbing the team coffee. Kendra is working and tells him he caught her off guard the other day. He introduces himself and they shake hands. She gives him her number. He returns to the table and shows Barry and Caitlin the number. Caitlin mentions he needs a nickname. Barry comes up with it: Vibe.
We close on Earth 2. Zoom is holding Wells' daughter captive. Wells' motives come into focus and Jay was right. Wells has a vested interest in stopping Zoom that has nothing to do with his atoning for his past sins.
