Jeremiah Danvers finally returns home, but he isn't the man he once was. Dean Cain and Helen Slater guest star in this episode as Alex and Kara's parents as the family is reunited for the first time in a decade and a half. Tension is created when Mon-El and Winn are skeptical about Jeremiah...and it turns out they're right to question his intentions.
The episode opens with a pan of Kara's room and the clothes all over the floor (!!!). Mon-El says good morning, but rolls over to find Kara gone. Honestly, bless the CW for giving us a shirtless Mon-El. Kara flies back in with flowers and coffee for him after doing some Supergirl work in the city. She tells him that she had a nice time and he says, "I would like to wake up next to you." Absolute swoon. He asks her if they can stay at her apartment all day, but she insists that they need to go to work and asks him to keep their relationship under wraps.
Naturally, Mon-El struts into the DEO and announces that he and Kara are together. She's exasperated, but he tells her that on Daxam, people throw parties to celebrate getting together. J'onn tells them that they need to go to HR to fill out forms since they're dating a co-worker.
The DEO receives an alert that CADMUS is moving a prisoner. Kara and J'onn go and manage to open the truck to find Jeremiah Danvers inside. Back at the DEO, Alex is incredibly excited. As Alex treats her dad's wounds, he tells them that CADMUS saved him and forced him to enhance Hank Henshaw. He explains that his hand is damaged beyond repair as punishment for when he helped Kara and Mon-El escape.
When Mon-El arrives, he thinks that the situation seems a bit sketchy. He points out that they got an alert that CADMUS was releasing a prisoner. Honestly, I was completely with Mon-El on this one....it seems like everyone's a bit too trusting. Jeremiah tells them that CADMUS has created a nuclear fission bomb built from the radiation they took from Kara's heat vision.
As Winn sets to work trying to locate the bomb, Eliza Danvers arrives at the DEO and is reunited with her husband. Mon-El asks to talk to Kara and tells her that he doesn't think they were actually capturing her heat vision. He questions that they are trusting Jeremiah despite him having spent so many years with CADMUS, but Kara fusses at him and tells him to come to their family dinner and give Jeremiah a chance.
The Danvers are reminiscing about when the girls were young when Maggie shows up at the door. Alex comes out to her dad, whose only comment is, "Things have changed!" But when Maggie gives him a bottle of tequila, he quips, "Hey, she's family!" Mon-El arrives and Jeremiah watches his daughters and their partners being adorable and domestic.
He apologizes to Eliza for not being there while the girls were growing up and tells her, "We can make up for lost time." However, Eliza tells him, "It's not possible; that time is gone." She says that they don't know each other anymore and will have to relearn each other. I really appreciated how real this moment was.
Jeremiah addresses the whole family, "Obviously this is going to be a time of adjustment but I hope you'll all be patient with me." He asks J'onn if he can return to the DEO and Mon-El starts to question him. Alex is upset and Kara pulls him aside and tells him to leave her apartment. While I understand that he's their father, I think they were a little quick to give him a position at the DEO again.
Jeremiah offers to see Mon-El out and confronts him in the hallway. "I know who you are," he tells him an d vaguely threatens to tell Kara the truth. When will it finally be revealed that Mon-El is the Prince of Daxam?? (Everyone else has assumed that too, right?)
Winn meets Mon-El at the alien bar and asks him what he thinks of Jeremiah's return. Mon-El pushes, "When's the last time that you were this lucky?" Winn agrees to help him, but says that Mon-El owes him a favor in return. "Just be good to her," Winn says. I absolutely love Winn and Mon-El's friendship.
J'onn is giving Jeremiah a tour of the DEO and he tells him how much he appreciates that he was the first human to accept him despite being an alien. He gives him a key card and tells him to familiarize himself with the work. However, after J'onn leaves, Winn sees Jeremiah start opening classified files.
Winn and Mon-El tell Kara what Winn saw and she isn't pleased, but believes them. Kara goes out into the DEO and asks Jeremiah why he was accessing classified files. He tells them that he simply wanted to know what his daughters were doing in the years he had been gone. Alex gets mad at them for questioning him, but Kara is aware that something doesn't add up.
She confronts Alex and tells her that they need to consider that Jeremiah was with CADMUS for a long time. Alex accuses her of taking Mon-El's side in everything (a low blow), but Kara fights back that if Jeremiah really wanted to know what they had been doing, he could have simply asked. "You're either part of the family or you're not," Alex tells her before stalking away.
Mon-El asks Winn for advice on how to be a better boyfriend to Kara. Winn says, "Kara's a badass. She doesn't need a protector or someone to show her off." Winn recommends that he simply listen to Kara and what she wants. Honestly, he couldn't have given Mon-El better advice so shout out to Winn. (Yes, I'm highly aware that I manage to make every recap a lowkey love letter to Winn Schott Jr.)
Winn gets an alert that CADMUS is moving the fusion bomb, so Alex and Kara head to its location while Jeremiah gives commands back at the DEO. Putting Jeremiah in charge seems risky, right? Well, turns out Mon-El was right all along because there's no sign of the bomb and Jeremiah turns on J'onn.
Winn attempts to do something and Jeremiah throws him to the ground. I accidentally yelled, "I'll kill Jeremiah myself!" at the TV in response to that. He takes information out of the system and beats J'onn to a pulp before escaping from the DEO. It's revealed that he has some strange device in his arm that is clearly making him much more powerful.
Alex is worried when she sees the state that J'onn is in and protests that there's no way Jeremiah could have overpowered him. However, J'onn wakes up and confirms that his arm has been enhanced. Winn reveals that he hid a tracker on Jeremiah. My friend Jenna remarked, "Winn for the win."
Lillian Luthor meets Jeremiah in the woods and he hands over the files to her. Alex and Kara arrive, but CADMUS takes down part of a bridge so that Kara has to go save the train coming towards it. Alex catches Jeremiah as the others flee and confronts him. Jeremiah asks her, "Would you believe me if I said I did it for you?" Okay, good try, Jeremiah. He tells her, "If you want to bring me in, you're going to have to shoot me." She isn't able to do it and breaks down. Sometimes, I forget what an incredible actress Chyler Leigh is; she never fails to impress me.
Alex is drinking liquor alone when Maggie comes into her apartment. When she asks how her dad's first day back went, Alex cries in her arms. It was touching to see Alex be so vulnerable with someone. Meanwhile, Kara is curled up on her couch when Mon-El shows up at her door. He clearly isn't sure what to say, but asks her, "Why don't you tell me what you need?" I'm impressed that he put Winn's advice to good use! Kara tells him, "Just be here with me." He holds her to his chest and kisses her forehead and I can't have been the only one absolutely swooning, right?
Their cute moment is interrupted when Winn calls to tell Kara that he found out what Jeremiah stole. He's clearly upset when he tells her, "He took the National Alien Registry.
How will the DEO defeat CADMUS's plan to exterminate aliens on next week's episode? Will Jeremiah Danvers ever redeem himself? Don't forget to tune back in next week for another episode of SUPERGIRL and check back for my next recap.
