On this week's episode of SUPERGIRL, former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter guest starred as the President, Mon-El finally woke up, and three new characters were introduced. When the President is attacked, Kara assumes that the recently escaped Mon-El did it, but it turns out there's another villain in their midst. Meanwhile, Alex Danvers and J'onn J'onzz both find new partners in crime.

The episode opens where last week's left off: with the now awake and shirtless Mon-El throwing Kara aside to escape the DEO with his super speed and strength. It's clear that he's fighting not because he's trying to hurt anyone, but because he's confused and scared. I'm so excited for Chris Wood to finally get to really have a role on the show (because sleeping through two episodes doesn't quite count). Chris is actually an alum of my university and another former theatre actor on SUPERGIRL so I can't wait to see more of him.

The President is coming to National City to announce an Alien Amnesty Act, granting aliens full rights so that they can openly live amongst humans. J'onn tells Kara that he disagrees with the act because people are naturally afraid of things that are different from them. "I say that as an alien and someone who's lived as a black man for fifteen years," he tells her in definitely the most poignant line of the episode. However, Kara is simply star-struck at the thought of meeting the President.

Meanwhile, at CatCo, Kara's mean boss takes over James's first staff meeting. When James tries to assign stories, Snapper Carr oversteps and assigns them himself. James attempts to give Kara the interview with the president, but Carr assigns her to get Lena Luthor's view on the new alien act instead. Honestly, I wasn't expecting him to give her a story at all, so...progress?

As the President gets off her plane, an alien attacks, shooting fire at her. Luckily, SUPERGIRL is there to save her. I love that SUPERGIRL chose to make the president a woman (little girls seeing women in roles like President in the media is so important!) and I also love that they cast Lynda Carter who played Wonder Woman in the 1970s TV show.

Alex and Kara both assume that the attack was done by the escaped Mon-El and Alex goes to gather evidence. She runs into a city detective, Maggie Sawyer, who handles cases involving aliens. They have a boss lady face-off when Alex tells Maggie that the case is within her jurisdiction. The tension in this scene was so palpable; I hope Maggie is a recurring character this season because I love her chemistry onscreen with Chyler Leigh.

Kara shows up to Lena's office and the two seem quite chummy until Lena shows Kara her newest device. It's an alien detection gadget that she plans to market across America: a simple skin test that can reveal if someone is human or not. Kara questions her, "Doesn't it go against everything America is supposed to stand for?" and momentarily panics when Lena offers for her to try the device. She manages to zap the device with her eye powers so that it doesn't reveal her alien identity, but she's clearly frustrated with Lena.

Winn locates Mon-El in an abandoned warehouse. Seriously, how does Winn find everything? Also, what is it with aliens and hanging out on abandoned warehouses? The DEO goes in, but Mon-El is already gone and Alex isn't too pleased to find Maggie already there.

Kara proudly turns in her article on Lena Luthor, but Snapper isn't impressed and tells her she has to rewrite it without bias. Rookie mistake, Kara. My biggest question is: do people actually still turn in stories on paper? James is also struggling with his new job, but Kara reminds him that he doesn't have to be Cat to be a good boss. I miss Mehcad Brooks being on the show more and I hope that James will have a larger role in some of the upcoming episodes, despite him and Kara breaking up.

Maggie takes Alex for drinks at a strange speakeasy dive bar full of aliens. She explains that it's a safe HAVEN for aliens to be in their true forms and where she is able to get her inside information on alien cases. When Maggie identifies one of the waitresses as her ex, she says, "I don't strictly date aliens, for the record, but I do like them more than most humans." She says that she can relate to the aliens feeling like they don't fit in because she grew up as the only non-white, non-straight girl in her town in Nebraska. I love that this episode included not only a female president, but a lesbian character; I repeat: representation matters.

Another alien in the bar tells Alex and Maggie that Mon-El is sending out a signal to space. When Alex arrives back at the DEO, Winn locates the signal at the Mount Pride Observatory. But it's not going towards Krypton at all...it's aimed towards a planet called Daxam, which sparks an immediate reaction from Kara.

Kara and Mon-El fight, though he insists, "I don't want to hurt anyone." She brings him back to the DEO, where she explains that Daxam was the sister planet to Krypton. When Alex asks why Kara never mentioned it before, she quips, "Do the Hatfields mention the McCoys?" (It's clear that she's Cat Grant's protégé.) She explains that Daxam and Krypton fought a bloody war many years ago and that the people of Krypton hates the Daxamites.

Kara confronts Mon-El in his cell. When she tries to pick a fight with him, he simply makes jokes back at her. As they exchange insults about each other's people, it becomes clear that Mon-El doesn't know much about where he is. He insists, "I didn't come here to kill anyone" and is offended that she hasn't even given him a chance. I think these two have amazing chemistry and am curious to see if Mon-El turns out to be Kara's newest love interest post-James. Anyone else in favor of a Kara/Mon-El relationship?

The President gives a lovely speech at an outdoor gathering about the signing of the Alien Amnesty Act, but right as she's signing it, an alien starts shooting fire. It's the creepy fire girl from the bar earlier! Kara is able to save the president but is caught on fire herself. I loved the homage to Wonder Woman as Kara spun around to put out the fire. The crazy fire alien takes Maggie with her and Alex is determined to save her.

As Kara deals with her guilt over assuming that Mon-El had been the previous attacker, Alex returns to the alien bar to ask who the new villain is. The bartender tells her that the girl hangs out down by the foundry, where Kara and Alex find her. She calls Kara a traitor to her people and says that the new act is just disguised registration of aliens. The women fight but they are eventually able to win and save Maggie, who states, "You guys are fun."

Snapper is furious when he finds out that James rewrote his piece and tells him that he isn't allowed to do that. "Actually, Snapper, I can because I'm your boss," James tells him. (Yes, I immediately thought of Jefferson's line in Hamilton, "You know why? Because I'm the President.") It was great to see someone finally put Snapper in his place; it's been hard to watch him being mean to Kara.

Alex brought Maggie back to the DEO for her wounds to be treated. Maggie thanks her for saving her life and says that they made a good team. Alex seems a bit upset when Maggie says that she has to go because she has a date. Surely, I'm not the only Maggie/Alex shipper, right? #Malex?

Kara goes to apologize to Mon-El for blaming him for the attack on the President. When they shook hands, I almost squealed. He asks for help returning home and Kara explains that because of debris from Krypton's destruction, Daxam is an uninhabited wasteland. But she reassures him that she's a refugee on earth too and that he can find his way.

The episode ends with J'onn going to the hip alien bar and actually using his Martian form. I'm interested to see how J'onn deals with learning to embrace his alien self. The bartender lady is freaked out and when J'onn follows her outside, she morphs into her alien form and she looks just like him. She states, "I'm the last daughter of Mars."

I can't wait for next week's episode to find out more about Miss Martian, see how Kara and Mon-El are going to get along now, and get an update on Maggie and Alex. Don't forget to comment below or tweet me at @nicoleackman16 with your thoughts and predictions for next week's episode.
