Slide over Darryl Dixon, because word on the net is "If they kill Derek, we riot." Now, didn't we just get McDreamy back from his short-lived east coast mistake? Must we dangle that will-he/won't-he-be-around-for-the-rest-of-the-season plot point again?
It was deja vu all over again and again and again tonight.
Amelia and Owen were on the rocks again. She started a break up with up that resulted in his dumping her; from Dumper to Dumpee is a matter of seconds.
A plane crash in the city cued emotions in several of our regular favorites. If you didn't remember the plane crash of season 8, the multiple flashbacks (YANG!) would refresh your memory. Meredith. Arizona. Derek. Lexie. Mark. Cristina.
Derek had missed a meeting in DC and Meredith hadn't heard from him all day. It echoed the moments after their plane crash when she didn't know where he was, or if he'd survived. She and Arizona had a brief, private moment of shared panic before carrying on with the rest of their day.
Meredith was distracted in surgery and Bailey had to snap her into focus. She told her that she was allowed to panic at 5pm, but not a minute beforehand, and definitely not while working on a patient. It was a glimmer of a commanding Bailey of yesteryear. She Jedi mind tricked several people into acting appropriately this episode.
Arizona worked diligently to push beyond the trauma; sometimes barking orders and finally demanding that Alex stop hovering and let her work.
We learned that although Callie gave the order, it was actually Alex who amputated Arizona's leg.
The couple who were on the plane, Kate and Sam, was on their first date. Separately they spoke of how amazing the other one was, and how it was one of the first meetings that people dream about. You know, the calamity notwithstanding. This real life love at first sight story struck Stephanie, who was especially distraught when Kate suffered memory loss and suddenly couldn't remember who Sam was. Her solution was to harass her until she remembered, because that's how true love stories are cultivated. We can't purse our lips too tightly at her psychotic attempt at playing Cupid, because eventually Kate remembered and love reigned free once more.
Richard, who witnessed the crash, made his way around the hospital exaggerating how involved his was in the actual event. He all but said the plane crashed directly into the hood of his car, missing him my mere inches. After hearing his 56th version of his tale, April called him out, but he somehow got away with saying that it was a way of taking stock of what he had. Alright.
In a flashback to their last conversation before his trip to DC, Derek and Meredith talked about having another baby; a third child. Where are the other two? When 5 o'clock arrived, Meredith was at home - no children in sight. She made her way to the phone and was bathed in the red and blue lights. So check out #WhereIsDerek? What have they done to/with him? How will he rise triumphantly this time around?
Scenes from next week's episode showed a car flipping, flames erupting, and other hectic moments. What did you think of tonight's episode? Any feelings towards next week's? Let us know in the comments below.
