Julia Duffy returns as Dana (Patrick's mom) with news that Patrick (Jonathan Groff) wasn't expecting on tonight's ep, "Looking for sanctuary." Gaze upon this recap, we'll get you caught up.

We begin in a fancy highrise apartment that Kevin (Russell Tovey) is thinking of renting. And, hey, the listing agent is being played by none other than Christine Estabrook, so it's kind of like a mini SPRING AWAKENING reunion (she and Groff appeared in that show on Broadway). She's talking about the his and his sinks (this is San Francisco).

Kevin has no sooner taking the place and the pair of love birds are rushing to meet Patrick's mom (who hates when people are late). Kevin has to ask again that Patrick's sister Megan (Kelli Garner) will not be meeting them. Seems like Patrick's judgement sister has taken Kevin's ex Jon's side in the whole break-up and hates the fact that her brother is a home-wrecker. And if there wasn't enough pressure on Kevin, Patrick reveals that this is the first time his mom is meeting one of his boyfriends. Ever.

At Dom's restaurant, Doris (Lauren Weedman) stops by to deliver some bad news to Dom (Murray Bartlett): one of her uncles is contesting her father's will, so she actually doesn't have the money she promised Dom for the restaurant. He's maxed his credit cards and can't wait the four months for this to be resolved. They exchange a few f bombs at each other and she leaves.

Patrick and Kevin arrive late to dinner. She's two drinks in and seems fine with the tardiness. Kevin calls her "Dana Banana" (a nickname used so he could remember her name). It turns out, it is an old nickname and she is immediately delighted with Kevin and tells him to sit right next to her. They show her their phone app (the gay "Mortal Kombat-esque" game about various gay sterotypes battling each other).

Later, at the bar, she confides to Patrick that she like Kevin. She also hatches a plot to get Patrick to bury the hatchet with his sister. She insists he come to the zoo with her and Megan.

The next day while mattress shopping, Patrick asks Kevin to reconsider going to the zoo with him. He smartly bows out. Though they have only been dating a short while, he asks Patrick to move into the apartment he's just leased and share the bed he hasn't bought just yet.

At the shelter, Eddie (Daniel Franzese) begs Agustin (Frankie J. Alvarez) to use his art skills on a mural that is supposed to be done in time to show off to a major donor. Agustin has given art, but quickly enlists the shelter kid Sammi (Ni Ching) who previously displayed some artistic talent.

At the zoo, the cold war is very much still in effect. Megan goes off to get mom a hot chocolate, telling Patrick she assumed he wouldn't want one because he's always watching his weight. Mom offers him a Xanax.

Agustin unveils Sammi's drawing to Eddie over coffee. Agustin's ex Frank (O.T. Fagbenle) has also stopped in for java. Eddie is hurt to be introduced as Agustin's "friend." Frank is still a dick. Eddie comes to Agustin's defense and tells Frank that Agustin has been mentoring one of the trans kids in particular and has brought out her artistic side.

Back at the zoo, Megan makes another snide comment and Patrick gets into it with her. Kevin and Jon were both unhappy. Her husband Gus is friends with Jon and Megan blames Patrick for the break-up and if he isn't to blame than that means Kevin is an asshole. She digs in even deeper, showing how truly resentful she is of Patrick.

"I am so over Patrick getting a free pass because he's gay," she says. "You get to not give mom and dad kids because you're gay. You get to live with your friends in San Francisco, chasing your bliss and working on your video games because you're gay and you get to break up a relationship because you're f**king gay."

Dom returns to the apartment he shares with Doris to find Doris packing. "We're a co-dependent mess," she tells him as she leaves to go stay a while with Malik.

At the zoo, Dora finally puts her foot down. Her two children have to make up as she thinks they need to be united for what she has to tell them. She is thinking of leaving their father as she has fallen for a friend whom she helped through grieving when he's wife died. "Not unhappy, but yearning for something else --something more," she tells her children.

Megan is Megan (judgemental). Patrick isn't initially supportive until Dora points out the obvious parallels between her relationship and Patrick and Kevin's.

At the shelter, Eddie confronts Agustin about the whole "friend" introduction earlier. Agustin tells him he can't have it both ways. Eddie has continued to insist they were messing around (and nothing more). Eddie finally asks Agustin to be his boyfriend. They seal it with a kiss.

Patrick meets Dora the next day at her hotel while she waits for her car. He's brought mint chocolates for his dad. He asks her what she's going to do about the situation and she tells him "I have no f**king clue." She leaves, but not before telling him she hopes she'll see Kevin and him at Christmas.

Patrick returns to Kevin's apartment and tells him he's ready to move in. He wants to spend Christmas just with Kevin. After the way Megan has behaved, I can't say I blame him.
