The Gallaghers make their triumphant return into Season Six and to no one's surprise have brought with them a whole new set of problems. And isn't that why we love them?
Frank is still completely heartbroken over the death of his "true love," Bianca and is expressing his sentimentality to his children. And honestly? They are over it. Fiona and Sean have begun a full blown relationship now, much to the chagrin of her coworkers. When assistant manager, Owen, turns out to be cooking meth and is arrested, Sean offers Fiona the job. She is reluctant, knowing her coworkers will be infuriated, but she finally accepts.
Lip has fallen hard for his Professor, Helene. When a friend tells him that he not only knows Lip is sleeping with her, but heard that Helene was sleeping with another student as well, Lip spies on her at her house and beats up an emerging co-ed. Too bad it turns out to be Helene's son, Dylan.
She does take his advice to try teaching in his TA position when the unreliable Professor doesn't arrive. He does so and finds he has a knack for it. When the Professor does finally show up and witness Lip's lesson as well as his handling of a student plagiarizing a paper, he encourages Lip to think about it as a career. Sure it won't make him rich, but he sure would be good at it.
The two newest Gallagher train-wrecks are following in their older siblings footsteps. Carl has been released from Juvy after serving a year, but is now more respected than ever in his new gang for taking the rap for G-Dog. He even invites his ex-convict pal, Nick, over to spend the night. And Debbie, who lies to Fiona about not being pregnant, is devastated to learn that boyfriend, Derek has ghosted her and moved to Florida. When his parents show up to inform Fiona of the pregnancy, she is less than thrilled.
Hipsters still trying to invade the neighborhood are met with resistance. The Lisas are trying to petition Kev's neighbor, Yanis, to shut up, but he ain't having it. Using it to his advantage, Kev and Svetlana begin charging ridiculous prices at the bar for drinks. The hipsters thinking it's "authentic" and "real" will pay anything. Svetlana pays Ian to visit Mickey in prison with her. Mickey has been sentenced 15 years for the attempted murder of Sammy. Ian is having trouble with the scenario that Svetlana repeatedly pays Mickey to kill people in jail for people on the outside. He and Mickey come face to face and Mickey asks him to wait for him. Ian reluctantly and half-heartedly agrees.
The look on Mickey's face, as always, is heartbreaking. I know Ian isn't pleased with the business transactions Mickey is carrying out in jail, but is that all it is? Is he still hung up on the whole "you can't fix me" BS he gave Mickey last year when he broke it off with him? Oh these two, I love them so much and it kills me to see them hurting. There has to be some way Mickey will get out of prison early, isn't there? And yes, I realize I am rooting for a despicable murderer... I don't know what's wrong with me these days.
As for the others, Debbie and Carl are the two that are the most concerning as of late. They are in the midst of their most impressionable years and they are not making any of the right choices. Fiona, all in love with Sean, was quite dismissive of her dear husband, Gus. Poor, Gus. He never really stood a chance, did he? But she and Sean seem genuinely happy. That never tends to last long, though. Any signs of Jimmy? This is when he usually appears.
And Frank? I have to agree with Fiona and Ian on this one as I don't know how much of this I can take. Despicable and disgusting Frank is who we know and love. Can't really handle this fatherly love and devotion while he grieves for Bianca.
I can't believe we're already in Season Six. I feel like I've known these people all my life. But then, I tend to think most of the characters on TV shows I love are like my Friends. Yes, I'm in therapy, thank you for asking.
