Anger never really solves any problems and it certainly isn't solving any here. As Liv and Abby go at it, the election is at stake. And this is how people like Drumpf Doyle win elections.
Always (and inexplicably) at the forefront of the impending election, is Florida. The sought after endorsement from Governor Baker has both Team Mellie and Team Susan seething. Governor Baker is throwing a dinner to chat with Doyle, Susan and Mellie, however, Mellie is stuck in Burbank. Thanks to the petty war between Abby and Olivia, Abby grounds Air Force One in Burbank therefore, rendering Mellie's plane useless which will, in effect, make her miss the dinner with the Governor. Marcus, or as I like to call him, "The Mellie Whisperer," advises Mellie to take Liv and Abby out of the equation and solve it herself. She does so by walking out onto the tarmac and having a conversation with Fitz in front of the Press. Fitz informs Mellie that it was Liv who killed Andrew. Mellie confesses to Fitz that Liv has been vacant lately and she is concerned. He agrees to move the plane and to accompany her late to Governor Baker's dinner taking the blame for her tardiness.
In the Vargas camp, Alex is still trying to get Michael to inform on Cyrus, but he isn't having it. Vargas is still polling even with Edison Davis (even though we haven't seen him in weeks) and Cyrus suggests a Wedge issue to show their differences. Alex advises to release the info about Vargas' dying daughter, which neither Cyrus nor Francisco are willing to do. When Michael confronts Cyrus about Tom, the two have a big fight about their relationship, but it seems to work out okay as Michael sets Alex up for a fall. Photos of Vargas' sick daughter are released to the press which appear to have come from Alex's email. When Cyrus comes home to celebrate with Michael and the promise to work through their issues, Michael has left and taken their kid with him.
Susan and David, being forced to sleep in the same hotel room to keep up appearances, seem to be miserable. When Governor Baker approaches David about a deal for him to stop an investigation on some of her corrupt donors in exchange for an endorsement, he refuses. Liz begs him to take it, Susan appreciates his integrity. She thanks him and he again apologizes for what he did. The hold hands as they fall asleep.
At the Governor's dinner, Doyle and Mellie are all about the flattery, but Susan flat out tells the Governor that she doesn't appreciate her corruption and knows her terms will be limited. In a surprising move, The Governor publicly endorses Susan, because David, secretly, took her deal to get the endorsement. And none of it matters as Doyle wins Florida.
Abby has a mental breakdown with Fitz about guilt, Liv has a mental breakdown with Huck about Jake and the gals come together and realize they will have to work together to stop Doyle. (Anyone listening at #imwithher and #feelthebern)
I'm going to say this every week, but Mellie and Marcus? So gonna happen. Also? Abby and Fitz. These are my predictions.
And now Liz has the information that David did take Governor Baker's deal. So David and Susan reconcile... please tell me Liz's move isn't to inform Susan of the deal to tear them apart again? Right?
As for the election, I mean politically I would vote Vargas, but that's just me. Show wise, what is the best course of action here? Mellie is the obvious choice as it keeps Fitz and the Grant family involved. I can't take Doyle because fiction has to be more appealing than reality. And Edison Grant... we've heard a lot about him lately with Jake being tapped for his VP and such, but where is he? Is Vargas the only one campaigning? And dear, sweet, Susan, does she have a chance? Is that the only way we can keep Liz involved? Only a few episodes left and I am assuming, as with reality, that we will find the election results in the fall. Will we get the nominee before the end of the season?
And seriously? No Jake at all this episode?
