Tonight marks the start of Season 27 of THE AMAZING RACE. Before you say anything, I know what you're thinking: Season 27 already?! Didn't Season 1 air just yesterday?! Trust me, I feel old, too. But the show has managed to stay just as fresh and interesting as it did on day one, and I can't wait to see what they have in store for us this season!

There isn't a "blind date" kind of twist to this time around, but honestly, I'm okay with that. The best Races happen when teams are left to fight their way to the finish and can let their personalities shine! Which is why I should be on this show. I'd be very entertaining.

Join me right here and on Twitter @CourtHenley tonight at 8 PM PST as I live recap the West Coast season premiere of THE AMAZING RACE! I'm basically an expert, so you know you'll get good insight.

8:02: And so the Race begins, and in my backyard, no less: Venice, CA! Once again, I'm so close, yet so far! (Darn wokr for not letting me take off that day!)

Interesting teams so far: paparazzi, doctors, cousins, NFL cheerleaders, and a man that proposed to his girlfriend under the Northern Lights. I'll need to start stepping up my audition game!

8:05: Fitbits are back! At first I thought the Fitbit thing was a little dumb, but it's actually pretty cool. It's crazy when you realize how many steps they actually take on this race.

There we go: "The world is waiting for you. Travel safe." One day I'll hear those words in person!

I love seeing team that are excited. They're off to Rio, where the first team to get to the airport gets a 30 minute leg up on the rest of the teams!

Wait, there's a team from TMZ? Great.

Hopefully these dancers will counter the TMZ people. The dancers seem awesome.

8:10: Water bikes are my new favorite thing.

8:12: Helicopter ride over Rio?! Sign me up!

Ok. So far, I like the dancers, the mother/son, and Justin and Diana. (Also, give me some leeway here, it'll take me some time to get used to everyone's names.)

Hang gliding for a weather-dependednt Fast Forward seems risky, though. I hope Justin and Diana have good luck.

8:16: See? What did I say? Told you it was risky. Come on, Justin and Diana! You can do this!

8:21: It's not looking so good for poor Justin and Diana. See, I like them though, she's supporting him! My heart is breaking for them right now. They really care about this Race, and they seem to care about each other. You can do it, guys! It's not over till it's over!

Also, I can't imagine what it must be like to see Christ the Redeemer from a helicopter over Rio. That's gotta be absolutely amazing.

8:23: Detour: Sand or Sidewalk? Personally, I'd choose sidewalk. No WAY are you going to be able to beat professional foot volley players.

8:30: Arpoador Lookout - the first Pit Stop of this Race. Sounds pretty darn pretty!

Also, how on EARTH are any teams able to beat these professional players?! That's athleticism if I've ever seen it. These puzzles are tricky. If one single piece is off, the whole thing is wrong.

I can't get over how beautiful that view of Christ the Redeemer is from the helicopter. Wow.

8:31: And just like that, we have our first first place team: Josh and Tanner! They get the Express Pass, too, with a new little caveat: once they use it, they have to hand it off to another team. Pretty cool! Adding some strategy into the mix!

8:35: These dancers are quickly going to become my favorite team. I can feel it. They're hilarious.

8:42: Oh, look at that. The Cheerleaders are running into problems. Maybe Justin and Diana have a shot, after all! See?! It's not over till it's over!

Wow, teams are actually switching from the puzzle to the volleyball game! Guess I was wrong when I said the puzzle was easier.

This girl doesn't think she's ever lost anything she's ever done in her life? Maybe it's about time she does...

8:47: Come on, Justin and Diana! You're now ahead of Team TMZ and the Cheerleaders!

8:53: I'm not sure I've ever been happier for a team in the first leg than I am for Justin and Diana.

Oh. Great. The Cheerleaders made it. Hooray.

Oh my gosh, poor TMZ girls. Phil had to come to them on the first stinking leg. 3 hours and 45 minutes, that's literally insane.

Wow. That's my worst nightmare: losing in the first leg AND Phil having to come and break the news to you. That's miserable.

At least they were cheerful enough about it?

Well, folks, that's all for the premiere episode! You know who I'm rooting for right now. Who do you like so far? Who do you want to see eliminated next? Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter @CourtHenley!
