Newly single Jess and Cece need a night out, but did they choose the right party companions? The morning after comes all too quickly on the latest NEW GIRL.
Speaking from experience, sometimes when we don't want to think about boys, we gals like to go get our hair done. It's just a thing, deal with it. And Jess and Cece are no different. After getting blowouts to feel better after Jess' breakup and Cece's unrequited love for Schmidt, the girls foolishly agree to go to a party with Bearclaw (Guest Star Josh Gad) and his roommate, Ken. When Jess wakes up the next morning next to Bearclaw, she and Cece (who woke up next to Ken) are forced into the dreaded Walk of Shame through the streets of Los Angeles. Thanks to those stupid street cleaning signs (#localhumor), their car has been towed. They find a phone to borrow, but who knows numbers these days? (Does the loft not have their landline anymore?) Through their journey, they try to steal shoes off the phone wires, get water from water cooler jugs and worst of all, run into Jess' ex-boyfriend, Paul. (Guest Star, Justin Long). Feeling judged, Jess takes out her frustration at the double standard of women on their walk of shame on Paul until Paul admits that he is actually ashamed of his life. He is now a clown for kids birthday parties and has been dumped by his fiancee. The three proudly finish their walk of shame even though Cece and Jess finally admit that neither hooked up with the boys the previous night. Cece kept calling Ken, Schmidt and Jess and Bearclaw wound up writing a musical about Woodland Creatures.
Coach, meanwhile, is a little intimidated by his sophisticated new girlfriend, May. When she invites the guys to a classical recital at an art gallery, Coach is skeptical about bringing Nick and Winston. When they show up anyway, it is Coach who winds up making a scene and it is Nick and Winston who advise him to just be himself, as that is who she liked in the first place. They are correct and Coach and May finally kiss.
I am happy that Coach is finally dating somebody that deserves him. I think May is a good match for him and much healthier than his previous conquests in the school. The tension between Cece and Schmidt is still palpable and it is quite enjoyable. But, for me, the best part is seeing these four boys stick together. Yes, they have adversarial moments where they are going to try to mess with each other for sport, but at the end of the day, they are truly there for each other and only want each other to be happy. For Nick to be so annoyed that Coach didn't want him at the gallery only to turn around and be the one to give him the advice to save his relationship speaks volumes to the depths of these friendships. It is always endearing when they wind up supporting each other so deeply.
Note, there is nothing better than the look Schmidt gives when Cece tells him snidely, "Oh you've been to the legend." Nothing, I tell you.
One more note, only on TV shows can people still look that good on a walk of shame. It's way more messier...I've heard...
Last note, I am SO on bored for this woodland creatures musical. If the rest of the songs are as good as "Animal Gays," I smell a Tony!
Lines I Love:
Winston - Know whose hair I admire? Jesus, man. Dude's hair get overlooked because of all the miracles and stuff.
Jess - If that South African who killed his girlfriend can run with no legs, we can walk in heels.
Nick - I don't wanna go. But I don't like the idea of not going because they don't want us to go rather than not going because we don't wanna go.
Jess - I got promoted to Vice Principal. I have a bottle of soy sauce on my desk. No more packets for me.
Winston - Look, it's not what it looks like, my man. We're just trying to squeeze something out of my buddy and we'll be done when it comes out.
