BWW Recap: HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER - The Rehearsal Dinner

We're getting closer and closer to the wedding, and with tonight's episode, The Rehearsal Dinner, the episode opens with Barney handcuffed to a pole at a laser tag place because he was being "disruptive." Eventually, we find out that Barney's convinced Robin has been planning a laser tag rehearsal dinner since Barney has said he wanted one.

The episode goes back and forth between flash backs and current event as Barney tells the story of how Robin tricked him during his bachelor party, and then how he got her back. The group tells Barney that surprises aren't good in a relationship, and the reliability is a good thing, but of course, he doesn't take no for an answer. He convinces himself that they're planning a laser tag rehearsal dinner for him, and won't listen when everyone says that it's not true. Also during the flashback, Robin talks about wanting to have the wedding in Canada. This brings about all of the Canada jokes that How I Met Your Mother is famous for. Needless to say, a Canadian wedding doesn't happen.

Throughout the episode, Barney holds strong, convinced that being arrested is all a set up. Just when Robin's had enough, Barney reveals that the entire laser tag arrest was a ploy to get Robin in a place where he could show her his own big reveal. That he brought Canada to her. It turns out that the place they had been standing in was on an ice rink, and the ice rink was full of people to help Robin celebrate her heritage. This may be the first time Canada is celebrated on the show!
