Tonight on SLEEPY HOLLOW: A series of mysterious deaths at Tarrytown Psych leads Abbie and Ichabod to discover that an especially surprising spirit is involved in the all-new episode titled "Mama."
The episode opens with Abbie dreaming about her mother warning her about demons. After a conversation with Crane, she gets a phone call from the precinct, and leaves to go to work. She learns there's been three deaths at the Psychiatric Hospital and is placed in charge of the investigation.
She takes Jenny to accompany her to begin investigation. After a conversation with ex-detective Irving, she and Jenny start reminiscing about their mother - and her time being incarcerated at the psychiatric centre. Abbie is having doubts about why she was chosen as a witness.
They find surveillance footage of one of the suicides. After enabling night vision on the footage, they see their mother as a ghostly figure in the room.
Abbie and Crane are discussing what was uncovered at the psychiatric hospital. Crane is feeling a little under the weather. Abbie remembers some childhood trauma in a flashback, where her mother rants about demons and trusting no one. Nick comes along with Matzo-Ball soup for the ailing Crane.
Meanwhile, a baby Moloch is being tended too by Henry Parrish. Katrina is with him, and asks to learn of his plans. Henry insists she pick up the baby - and says her record of being a mother is not so great, but she has the opportunity to change it. Katrina picks up the baby Moloch. He appears to be feeding off of her, but she doesn't notice.
Abbie, Jenny, and Nick are monitoring live surveillance cameras at the hospital when they notice a patient trying to commit suicide. They run in to stop him, when Abbie sees her mother's ghost. They both then disappear magically as the episode cuts to commercial.
When the show resumes, Abbie finds herself in a dark, long corridor. She draws her gun and is attacked by a light falling off of the ceiling. She sees her mother again, and tries to communicate with her. Her mother warns her it's not safe for her and she should leave. Meanwhile, Jenny also hears her mother, who leaves her a note directing them to a video record of one of her sessions.
Back at Henry's hideout, Katrina is realizing the demon baby is feeding off of her. Across town, Jenny and Abbie are about to watch the video record - but Jenny is having second thoughts about seeing it. Abbie manages to talk her into watching it. They discover a video of Abbie's mom yelling about Nurse Lambert, someone who Abbie had encountered earlier in the day. The doctors on tape tell her there is no Nurse Lambert at all. Meanwhile, Irving is being handed a bunch of pills by the ghost nurse.
We see Irving attempting suicide, being taunted by the ghost nurse. Abbie and Irving have a short conversation, and then Abbie goes to research the ghost nurse. Abbie, Jenny, and Nick find records that show Nurse Lambert had been a rogue nurse who murdered tons of patients - and was eventually sentenced to death.
Abbie, Jenny, and Nick go to Mother Mills' old room - and find a giant drawing on the wall of Jenny and Abbie, with the words "you are my sunshine" written there. Jenny has a flashback about a time her mother almost killed her. She wants to leave, but Abbie holds her. Their mother's ghost appears again and warns them they aren't safe. She tells them of a journal which has a spell they can use to get rid of the ghost nurse. Just then, ghost Nurse Lambert appears and kidnaps Abbie. Abbie is being tormented by the ghost, and Jenny and Nick go to find the journal among Mother Mills' personal effects. They find it, and go to try and save Abbie. She is being tortured by the ghost nurse, who is about to force her to kill herself.
Just as ghose nurse is about to force Abbie to swallow a bunch of pills, Mother Mills' ghost appears to help her. Meanwhile Jenny is saying the incantation to get rid of the ghost permanently. The spell works and it appears ghost Nurse Lambert has been banished. Abbie's mother is also gone. Abbie wishes she could have thanked her and spoken to her once more, so they attempt to contact her with a séance. It works, and their mother, Laurie, appears. Abbie asks her why she was chosen as a witness. Her mother tells her that there is much she won't understand. In a flashback, Jenny learns that a time she thought her mother was about to kill her - she was actually saving her life. Their mother then is freed from the psychiatric hospital and moves on.
As Abbie is leaving the hospital, former Captain Irving runs out and escapes with them. Meanwhile, Katrina is trying to destroy baby Moloch, but he's grown and looks about 9 years old. All of this has happened in just a few hours.
Tonight's episode was really intense, and much is revealed in terms of story line, and connecting past information with more recent episodes. I'm really hoping with Moloch finally on earth and in a somewhat vulnerable state, we finally get to see more of Katrina. For the better part of two seasons Katrina has been sitting around and waiting, but Katia Winter is such a brilliant actress - so I'm hoping they'll give her more to do next week.
