The threat of gentrification is becoming all too real for the Gallaghers. Between high dollar home buyout offers and organic coffee shops popping up, it looks like the neighborhood is about to be infiltrated by hipsters.
Fiona is finally off House Arrest much to her delight. At work, her flirtation with Sean is reaching an all time high when he physically defends her outside the restaurant. After finally getting up the courage to ask him out, Sean works through his temptation and turns her down flat accusing her of being a "chaos junkie" which is detrimental to his recovery. In her ever constant denial, Fiona is flabbergasted that people think she's an addict of any kind.
Lip is beginning a new blue collar job and it nearly kills him as he hasn't done manual labor in quite some time. Maybe his spoiled lifestyle at school is finally catching up to him, but Lip is determined to prove that he is still a tough, neighborhood boy.
Vee is still not adoring motherhood as much as Kev is. Kev finds in unlikely ally in Svetlana and even invites her to breastfeed the twins when he runs out of formula. Not surprisingly, Vee is not pleased with that decision or him shaving his head. She is convinced she is a terrible mother and at this point, I don't think Kev is helping.
Debbie is still determined to be seen as a grown up and is none too pleased that her former friend, Holly, is now flirting (and making out) with Carl to get under Debbie's skin. When she hits on a boy at the pool and he mistakes her for a Special Needs child, she turns to a professional for advice, Svetlana. She gives her some tips as well as a makeover.
Sammy is desperate to throw Frank a Father's Day "Something," but has no support from the Gallagher clan. When Frank and Sheila are invited to a dinner from the liver donor's family, Frank agrees to attend since they are serving Prime Rib. Sammy, unwanted, tags along. The donor's family is horrified to see that Frank is drinking and encouraging the Lung recipient to begin smoking again. Sheila finally confronts Sammy and tells her that she's being a brat and she will begin to act more like her stepmother as opposed to her frienemy. Sheila also receives an offer for her house doubling it's value. This leads Frank to investigate and discover that their neighborhood has been listed as "Up and Coming" which explains all the changes happening.
Ian drags Mickey to a Military funeral which is protested by Christians against homosexuals which sends Ian into a rage. It is only Mickey that can calm him down, but he is genuinely starting to see his mood swings. With the help of Mandy and some of their friends, they wind up seducing the Pastor and getting photos of him in compromising positions with another man. Mandy encourages Mickey to tell Fiona about Ian, but he insists they can handle it.
Fiona sees Debbie's makeover and is horrified, but then realizes she has to help her baby sister grow up. She takes her to the concert to see the musicians that have been flirting with her at the diner. They have a great time, but Fiona winds up getting into a fight and in her escape dragging Debbie with her. The two laugh and joke around as they are fleeing the scene. Seeing the delight on Debbie's face, Fiona realizes that maybe Sean was right, maybe she is a "Chaos Junkie" and she is creating another one in Debbie.
I'm still worried about Mickey and Ian simply because something incredibly bad is going to have to happen to get Mickey to admit that Ian needs help. And I just can't help but root for those kids. I'm also worried about Kev and Vee, a couple I have never had concerns about before. Children is not doing anything for these two and it's only going to get harder. The Sean and Fiona scene was so genuine and real, it was remarkable. A junkie who is well into his recovery having the ability to step back and say no to a junkie who still won't admit she's an addict is an amazing take on this story. It would be so easy to have these two hook up and have a torrid affair, but they didn't take it there. So will Fiona be able to seduce Sean or will she take a lesson from him and start honestly trying to achieve her own recovery. Though I don't think she's even accomplished Step One yet.
No sign of Steve/Jimmy/Jack this week but I know he's lurking in the shadows somewhere. I can only imagine how he's going to talk his way out of this one.
Lines I Love:
Lip - You okay? Vee - I have twins, I'll never be okay again.
Frank - They may have female genitalia, but those Lesbains are "the Man."
Kev - Hey, Deb. Do you know Svetlana? Debbie - Sure. She's my brother's lover's baby mama.
How are the Gallaghers and the rest of the neighborhood going to take to pressed juiceries and yoga studios? Call me crazy, but I feel as though they are not going to be receptive. Was there a glimmer of hope this week for Mandy and Lip? Will Sammy respond to Sheila's parenting? How bad could Frank's beer actually taste?
