I was gone on vacation last week, I didn't miss anything, did I? Except Fitz revealing the truth to Mellie and Cyrus, Huck torturing Liz for the truth, Jake and David Rosen figuring out where Liv was just after she made a deal with her captor, Ian? Is that all? Sheesh. I'm never going away again!
Poor Abby. She really doesn't have anyone or a plot line this season. And now, everyone but her, knew about Olivia. When she finally starts to put the pieces together and confronts David about it, he confesses to her that basically she wasn't worthy of the information. Abby's character had such a great depth to it as we began to learn of her past and then she just fell away. Hopefully she'll get something juicier soon.
However, the real drama wasn't with Abby. Cyrus draws up the resignation for the Vice President, but he refuses to accept it. Once he figures out they are blackmailing Liz to testify against him, he desperately turns to Mellie and threatens to reveal their affair. Mellie, confessing to the President that she has political aspirations of her own, asks him to let Andrew walk. He agrees. Is it me or are these two become friends? Is this the thing that will finally get them working together again? I feel as though we could construe that as irony. Especially if they actually wound up falling in love again. But I digress...
After Jake disagrees with the President's tactic to try and get in on the auction, he turns to Huck and Quinn to try and hack into it. Problem is, they need a well-known International Terrorist on their side. Luckily, they happen to have one standing by: Maya Pope. With some fierce negotiations with David Rosen, Maya agrees to help save her daughter. She cons Huck into a kill mission to get into the auction which flips Huck's violence switch yet again. Jake is pretty concerned about unleashing Huck into the world. And even though Quinn is his number one defender, I think even she started to get a little freaked out. Basically, Pope and Associates is in shambles. The Situation Room at the White House isn't much better. Fitz is near breakdown status once his bid for Olivia fails and his only order is for extraction. (I'm confused, do they know where she is?)
Olivia, after striking a deal with Ian that she could choose her victor in the auction, is dismayed, to say the least, when psycho guard, Gus decides to kill Ian and take over as the leader. She has one desperate plea to the hackers trying to convince them that if they help her, she'll help them. Too bad they're only interested in money and have no desire to set her free. She is out of options and Gus isn't as pragmatic as Ian as he decides to auction Liv off to not only the top bidder, but Iran.
Huck firmly believes that Olivia is dead. If she weren't the star of the show, I would tend to agree with him. (Although what a twist THAT would be.) My fear is that this mystery negotiator from Iran is Rowan Pope. I don't want it to be that predictable, but that's my fear.
I'm not gonna lie, I don't think Fitz is the greatest President. He's being quite irrational right now, especially seeing all those coffins in the airport hanger, but we get yet another view of Mellie's greatness as she comforts the families of the soldiers and shows up to every airport ceremony.
Is Cyrus still getting married? We haven't seen his fiance in a while. I know, there are more important things going on, but I don't want to forget about the hot prostitute that Cyrus is being forced to marry. We can't force Scott Foley to be the only eye candy every single week. (Except, we totally can.)
Jake has valid concerns about Huck. He had a lot of the crazy eyes happening and I'm not sure he should be mixed with the general population. Sure he deserved all that money he hacked from B6-13 that he claimed as retribution for time in the hole, but I think without Liv to stabilize him, he's going to go off the deep end. Speaking of, we still haven't had a reaction from his ex-wife, Astrid Kim about the files he left her? I feel like her curiosity would get the best of her and she would read them. But again, I know there are more pressing issues at hand. Jake, just rescue Liv already so we can get back to the romance stuff!
Lines I Love:
Cyrus - Good morning, powerful people, I come bearing vengeance.
Olivia - I'm in shock. Put anything close to my mouth, I might bite it off.
Mellie - The irony is, he chose you because he thought you'd be loyal. Andrew - Probably the same reason he chose you.
Mellie - America can forgive a man 100 infidelities, but they will never forgive a woman even one.
The most important takeaway from tonight's episode for me is Mellie Grant is a far better politician than Fitzgerald Grant. And I think she'd make a fine President. And if anyone can put a woman in the White House, it's Shonda Rhimes.
