Most of the time, in the penultimate episode of the season, there is a lot of setup for the finale and not much else going on. This was no such episode. Things sure did get bloody in Alexandria tonight and not just for the Cavaliers. (#marchmadnessburn #gospartans)

We open with Deanna and her family grieving for Aidan by listening to his "Run Mix." The first song provides a nice Nine Inch Nails soundtrack for the opening sequence which includes Carol baking a casserole for the family and leaving a sympathy note at their door, Sasha sleeplessly picking off walkers from the tower and Deanna burning the sympathy note.

Daryl and Aaron are off in the woods looking for more recruits when they come upon a dismembered walker as well as one tied to a tree just after being fed upon. She has a "W" carved in her forehead.

Carl follows Enid into the woods, but she catches him. For a few moments they are able to act like kids up to mischief as they chase each other through the forest. They are caught in a compromising situation when they have to duck into a hollowed out tree to hide from walkers. I thought we were about to witness Carl's first kiss, but we didn't. We instead witnessed yet another walker with a "W" on their fore.

We see alternate confessions as Nicholas confesses to Deanna that he and Aidan were trying to save everyone, but Glenn and Tara and Noah almost got them killed. At the same time, Glenn is confessing to Rick how it really happened. Glenn confronts Nicholas and warns him to stay behind the walls because he has no clue how to survive outside them. How Glenn has not killed him yet is beyond me.

Rosita reports to Michonne that Tara is recovering slowly, but Sasha is losing her mind sleeping in the tower and going off on hunts. They find her in the woods trying to take out walkers non-stop. Michonne joins in and helps her and Sasha confesses her guilt about Noah's death as well as everyone else's.

Rick goes to see Deanna to offer condolences for Aidan, but also to report Pete's abuse of Jessie and Sam. Sam has been telling Carol all the stories about what Pete's been doing to them to which Carol reports to Rick. Carol is extra protective of Sam now, being a former abused wife herself. Deanna had known about the abuse, but was hoping Pete would get better since he is the town surgeon and they desperately need him. Rick offers to kill him and Deanna is horrified and tells him executions aren't an option. When Jessie comes to see Rick to talk about Noah, he calls her out on the abuse and offers to kill Pete. Resistant at first, she finally agrees. Pete arrives home and he and Rick get into an all out brawl that ends up on the street in front of everyone. Blood-faced, Rick gives them all a dire warning that they have no idea how to run a town and will never survive. Michonne knocks him unconscious.

The only response at that point was, "Um...what?" SO much going on. First, we can all acknowledge that Rick has evolved into Shane, right? RIGHT? I mean he is just a vengeful warrior now. He's offering to kill people, for a woman he just met! Why? I'm with Michonne on this one. Knock him out and shut him up so we can save as much face as we have left. It is definitely war now in Alexandria. I do believe that Daryl is the only one who really likes his job and is happy working with an Alexandrian. But then, they rarely are inside the walls. Was everyone really rooting for Carl to have his first kiss? An interesting situation in post-apocalyptic land, through all the violence and gore, teenagers still have to deal with the bummer that is adolescence. I don't know what to think of this Enid character, but I'm hoping that Carl gets at least a first kiss. Nicholas, on the other hand, somebody needs to put that boy down. Glenn has shown remarkable restraint when it comes to him. I know there will be some true bloodshed next week, and I'd like to nominate Nicholas. And speaking of bloodshed, there have been some major deaths this year and we know we're not going to get through a finale without at least one more big one. So who's it going to be? If it's any of the big three, Rick, Carol or Daryl, we'll revolt, so let's assume the writers aren't that cruel. At this point, my money is on Glenn, Sasha or Father Gabriel. And if it's Glenn, it wouldn't be surprising if Maggie died right along beside him. At this point, I think he's the only thing keeping her alive. I can't believe we're at the finale already. These seasons go way too fast.

Lines I Love:

  • Carol - If Walkers hadn't gotten Ed, I wouldn't be standing here right now. Rick - Yeah, you would.

  • Nicholas - Are you threatening me? Glenn - No. I'm saving you.

  • Enid - It's their world. We're just living in it.
