The campaigns are starting to get dirty... dirty, ugly and unfathomable. This is also happening on SCANDAL.

At the debate, Drumpf/Doyle and Mellie are on the attack and viciously go back and forth at each other while Susan stands catatonic to the side recovering from her breakup with David. During the commercial break, Fitz gives Susan a call and tells her she just needs one moment and that is all the news cycles will cover the next day. Susan seizes it and decides to confess that her husband died in Afghanistan after she failed to voice her opinion to him which she felt could have saved his life. She stands for women everywhere and the crowd goes wild. Not even Sally can keep them seated.

Olivia does NOT like to lose and decides to use the dirt that Alex gave her which is that the man Susan described was not her husband. In fact, he wasn't even the father of her daughter. They discover the actual baby daddy is a convicted felon named Ronnie who is a sweet fellow. Liv blackmails him into giving a DNA test to prove his paternity even after he decides not to as he doesn't want any harm to come to Susan or Casey. Liv gets confirmation he's the father and forces Huck and Quinn to release it to the Press. Huck flat out refuses and soon after, Quinn agrees with him that Liv is off the rails. Quinn turns to Abby to talk some sense into her, but Abby encourages Fitz to talk to her. They fight (as per usual). He wants them both to evolve and be better people and to run clean campaigns. She laughs him out of her office.

The country goes nuts for the love affair of Susan and David. David apologizes repeatedly and professes his love to Susan, but she informs he is nothing more than a prop. When Fitz reveals to her the information that Olivia has, he asks her to come clean and be the honest candidate. She makes her decision, but finds out that Ronnie has killed himself in prison. She and David keep up the facade. Liv calls Fitz back to the office and swears to him that she will run a clean campaign.

Mellie, meanwhile, is suffering from image problems once again as she is invited to Los Angeles to be on Jimmy Kimmel (#abcplug) to read Mean Tweets. Marcus is assigned as her babysitter and finally tells her this will make her more relatable and approachable because currently she is whiny and annoying. (Prediction: These two are SO gonna do it.)

Edison is starting to see the side of Eli that Olivia warned him about. When the news of Edison's rehab stint is leaked, Eli quickly cleans it up and puts Edison in his place as the patsy that he is there to be. Over at Vargas HQ, Francisco is none too happy that Alex's supposed dirt was unreliable and made everyone look like fools. He puts Cyrus back in charge and the war has begun. Hi, Tom!

I am glad that Olivia came to her senses a little bit, because she was almost going to that dark place where it would be impossible to like her any longer. Although, I did feel that they all brushed Ronnie's death off a little too quickly. And maybe when Huck is the only rational one in the room, take a step back and look at yourself for a second.

However, now that Susan is proceeding as the honest candidate with integrity, where are we going with David? Will it be found out that they aren't really a couple or will she slowly start to forgive and fall back in love with him? Either way, I'm glad Liz has to watch it every step of the way.

Scott Foley directed the episode so it's nice to see him stepping behind the camera. However, if he directed it, why wouldn't he put in a shirtless Jake scene? I mean, that's just a no-brainer!
