John makes a deal with a demon to save himself in part two of "The Saint of Last Resorts." Sit a spell, won't you?
We pick up right were we left off at the fall season cliffhanger. Sister Anne Marie (Claire van der Boom) has shot John (Matt Ryan) and left him to be eaten by a demon as she makes her escape.
John quickly casts a spell, inviting another demon in to possess him. Manny (Harold Perrineau) appears and is not happy with John's decision. Where was God or for that matter Manny, John asks (perhaps reading my mind). Way to Monday Morning Quarterback, Manny.
Meanwhile, Zed (Angelica Celaya) awakens in the back of a van. She's been kidnapped by a cult member who is taking her to her father. She has a vision of a nun who is crying blood and then throws herself against the back doors of the van, trying to break out. Cult member stops the van with a plan to inject her with more knock out juice. He opens the back door and she jumps at him, wrestling the needle from him and injecting him. Do. Not. Mess. With. Zed.
Yeah! John's best buddy Chas (Charles Halford) enters the sewers to rescue John. John tells Chas about the deal with the demon. Chas is not happy. If John is unable to exorcize the demon, Chas will need to kill John. The clock is ticking. The demon momentarily takes possession of John, tossing Chas aside like a rag doll. Chas calls Zed (still running from the cult) and she readily agrees to take the first flight down to Mexico.
Demon John hasn't wasted any time, though. John awakens to a blood bath. Body parts and blood is everywhere. It looks like a Tarantino film. The Mexican police arrive and arrest him. He's taken to prison and walked through the prison yard. Cattle calls, whistles and the like. John looks like he's about to be made someone's prison wife.
The British consulate is there. Demon John has torn apart five members of a gang (though, the diplomat notes, they were still Mexican nationals). The investigation is going to take weeks (which is time John doesn't have).
In the prison yard, John barters with an inmate (courtesy of the wallet he lifted from the diplomat...oh, John). Manny appears to tell John that he never thought he'd ever do anything so stupid. "I'm John Constantine," John tells him, "I do stupid in spades."
Chas and Zed catch up with Sister Anne. Her reaction to John's demon possession is priceless: "Selfish wanker." Zed doesn't think too much of Anne. Though the Catholic church has been fighting the rising darkness for centuries, Zed tells her that heaven sent an angel named Manny to John. "John has heaven on speed dial," Zed tells her. Chas pleads with Anne to help them.
Back in prison, the inmate has double crossed John, leading him into a trap. Gang members corner him, determined to avenge their fellow gang members' deaths. "You stupid git, you're setting it bloody loose," John warns them. It does not end well for the additional gang members.
Anne uses the out of body mojo to locate John. Zed and Chas head to the prison. Zed removes her bra and enters the prison with a bunch of hookers. Chas tries to talk his way in and when that fails, takes a swing at the guard. A group of guards descend on him, beating him. As he is dragged into the prison, he smiles a blood-filled smile. Whatever it takes to get in, right Chas.
They are joined by Anne. Anne tells Zed if they make it through, she should leave John and never look back. They begin the exorcism, but are stopped by the original snake from the garden of Eden (possessing a man). John tells Anne to use a dagger and kill him. Anne kills the host of the snake instead. Snakes slither across the floor.
New plan is to bring John to the magic cabin (where the magic will weaken the demon's hold and allow the exorcism). They need to knock John out. Enter the inmate with a bunch of heroin. Anne wonders what will happen if this doesn't work. John says he'll go out on a high with his first lover by his side. Awwww.
Anne does one more out of body projection (with less clothes so as to distract the guards) and they smuggle a drugged out of his mind John out of the prison.
Back at the magic cabin, Anne reluctantly begins the exorcism. It doesn't initial work. Zed puts the pieces together. Anne needs to forgive herself for the events of New Castle. Anne gets her groove back in the nick of time.
As Anne leaves to go back to her Mexican convent, John apologizes for everything he put her through (she doesn't believe him). He tells Zed and Chas he is thankful for what they did (they don't believe him). The final moment is on John. His face carries a bit of pain. He just might have been serious this time.
And with that, the spellbook comes to a close.Comment below and follow me @triggercric and follow @BWWTVWorld for all the latest updates, scoops and recaps.
