Lots of celebrating going on during this leg of THE AMAZING RACE. Well, at least for the Green Team and all of those wedding guests. In general, this leg was pretty much uneventful and predictable. Sure, there was yet another U-Turn (a first-time-ever third U-Turn, to be exact), but it didn't really shake anything up. The Green Team still dominated, the Paparazzi still yelled at each other, and the Cheerleaders still looked adorable, yet slightly confused.
Teams stayed in India this week, which always makes for a good time, and had a very wedding-centric chunk of challenges thrown at them. I was really hoping for a good dance number at the end of the show, but alas, no boogying down this leg. Teams started pretty instantly this week with...
The Road Block.
For Full of Hot Air, teams have to fill up a bazillion (yes, a bazillion) balloons, load them into a giant net, hop onto a bike, and navigate the hectic streets of India to deliver them to a wedding planner.
It sounds pretty fun, but let me tell you, I've never seen people surrounded by that many balloons so angry. The Green Team gets to the Road Block first, since they left first (yet again), followed close behind by the Reporters and the Paparazzi. In a moment of comraderie (normally I'd say "desperation," but they're in first place so it can't be that), Justin and Diana make a deal with Kelsey and Joey to U-Turn Chris and Logan.
Meanwhile, Denise and James Earl ride a tuk tuk.
Justin flies through this challenge (typical), and arrives back with their next clue before anyone else even leaves. I know I've said this a thousand times, but I really wish I liked the Green Team more than I do. Diana's whole "let's put temporary tattoos on the little kids!" mission was honestly adorable, but Justin just ruins sentimental moments like these by saying stomething stupid or cocky down the line. Confidence is fine, but Justin has a tendency to go right past confidence and head straight into conceited.
Chris and Logan are yelling at each other once again as the Reporters leave and the Cheerleaders arrive. Alabama gets there shortly after, and James Earl begins his fight to the death against a giant net full of balloons. Poor James Earl.
And then the unthinkable happens. Okay, fine, it's not exactly unthinkable. Alright, so it's really actually pretty predictable. As the Cheerleaders ride their bike over an insanely busy and haphazard bridge, a rogue man rides by and completely knocks the balloon tower off of the back of the bike. The Cheerleaders start crying, which they've done before, but this time, I can't blame them. After what seems to be a production pow-wow on the side of the road, the Cheerleaders are still allowed to receive their clue from the wedding planner, even though they don't have their balloons. Fair enough, seeing as this was a completely unpredictable jerk move by a guy on a bike.
While all this is going down, The Green Team fulfills their pact with the Reporters at the U-Turn and gives the penalty to Chris and Logan. They then make their way to...
The Detour.
In Bring the Groom, teams must start a gigantic generator, then push it and a lit candelabra through the streets while following a groom on horseback to his bride at a nearby party. In Bring the Fun, teams muts deliver a carnival swing ride to the wedding by pushing it through the streets and give eight children a ride on it at the party.
Justin and Diana choose Groom, while the Reporters choose Fun. Honestly, both of these look awesome. Talk about a unique challenge. Things like this are what make me want to get on this show so desperately. The Green Team and The Reporters fly through this challenge as Chris and Logan arrive, knowing they have to do both Groom and Fun (thanks, U-Turn).
They might not be in for a huge setback, though, since James Earl only starts delivering his balloons as the Paparazzi arrive at the Detour.
The Cheerleaders arrive and choose Groom right around the same time Chris and Logan finish up their first round of the Detour. Everyone seems to tackle this Detour pretty easily, with the exception of the Cheerleaders, who struggle wtih starting the generator despite the fact that they're both turning the crank. Despite a ridiculous amount of complaining from Chris and Logan, they manage to finish both sides of the Detour before Alabama even finishes one.
Which brings us to...
The Pit Stop.
Phil's hanging out at the wedding shindig, and teams must search the crowd for him to get to the Pit Stop. Justin and Diana come in first (again) after what seemed like a pretty quick and straightforward leg. Kelsey and Joey arrive in second place, right on the heels of the Green Team. I desperately want them to one-up Justin and Diana and break their first place streak. Maybe next week, guys, maybe next week. For some context, though, Denise and James Earl haven't even started their Detour by this point.
The Cheerleaders arrive in third, who greet the Paparazzi with a good, old fashioned, "oh, no" as they arrive on the mat moments behind them. I'm surprised the Cheerleaders didn't hear them coming, though. Logan couldn't seem to do anything but scream during this leg (but really, what's new?). "How big is this party?? Is Phil dressed up?!" They've really gotta take it down a notch. Or two. Or twelve.
Alabama comes in last, but are pretty darn close to the Cheerleaders and the Paparazzi, since they're still both on the mat when Denise and James Earl get there. They've been eliminated, but honestly, kudos to them for even making it this far. I did not expect them to make it past the mid-way point of this season, let alone to the final five. Good for them.
Are you rooting for the Green Team, or do you want someone else to knock them off their throne? What do you think Chris and Logan are going to yell about next?! Let us know in the comments below or on Twitter @CourtHenley!
