If you were thinking maybe the finale would start out slow, you'd be wrong. Very, very wrong. Nothing like a murder in less than a minute. Welcome to a Shondaland!

Yeah, so Jake poisoned his father-in-law and watched him die... as you do. But let's come back to that. Mellie and Vargas are vetting VP hopefuls. Cyrus is after David Rosen as a possibility until Rowan pays him a visit. See, Rowan knows all about the stunt in Harrisburg Cyrus created to make Vargas a household name. In exchange for his silence, he wants Jake to become Vargas' VP candidate. Cyrus bows to his blackmail, but goes to Olivia to beg for help. He confesses what he did, but that he does truly believe in Vargas.

Mellie has narrowed down her choices to a few, but settles on Governor Bill Wagner of Missouri. Sure, he used to have a mini-cocaine business in college, but only one other person knows about that and that is his friend, Doug. No problem, Quinn and Huck provide Doug with a new identity and threaten him to move to New Mexico and start a new life. Edison pays a visit to Olivia to deliver Jake's message from last week that he is dying to escape Rowan's clutches. She throws the Governor under the bus with his friend, Doug and decides the best course of action is to have Mellie announce Jake as her VP. From there, she will, basically, just walk into Rowan's place and take Jake. She does so. And even though Rowan threatens to kill Jake, she knows he won't since he thinks of Jake as his son. The plan is successful.

Tom and Cyrus have a tender, albeit disturbing, moment in which they declare their love for each other while discussing how best to kill Michael who Tom has located. Tom even offers to become a Nanny to Cyrus and James' daughter. When Cyrus hears the announcement of Jake as Mellie's VP, he is thrilled that Olivia came up with a plan. He offers his pick for VP to Vargas... himself.

Olivia is PISSED that she got played and now she wants the Oval Office back. She threatens Jake to get on the ticket instead of the "normal life" he is offering her. Jake comes to the understanding that he may not be Rowan's little bitch anymore, but he is now Olivia's. Olivia and Rowan simultaneously realize that she has, in fact, become Command. Rowan grins with pride.

Lots to unpack here, let's start with Mellie. Mellie gave Fitz a speech that I'm sure Hillary has been dying to give Bill for years. But she was right. After everything he has put her through, the only thing left she is asking for is his support. And Fitz, even after finding about the abortion Olivia had, managed to apologize to her instead of being accusatory and bitter. Olivia and Fitz had a nice moment before everything went chaotic.

I love when Cyrus and Liv go at each other. Those two actors just have dynamic chemistry together. And despite my personal endearment to Tom, he is still an evil psycho killer. And yet, I felt bad for him when Cyrus coldly dumped him with no warning at the convention. Even cold blooded murderers have a heart.

And what was the little moment between Abby and Fitz when they were discussing their plans post administration? I am still telling you, these two are gonna hook up. Not as definitely as Marcus and Mellie, but still, it will happen.

I don't care all that much about Liz and David. I miss Susan already so I hope we haven't seen the last of her. Is David even redeemable at this point? Just make him a full-fledged bad guy already.

Doyle is long gone (Sigh, wishful thinking) so we are down to a Latino man running with a gay man on the Democratic side and a woman running with, well, a white man on the Republican side. (We can't solve everything at once.) And honestly, I can see the election going either way as there is something at stake for everyone.

And on to next Fall where we see the end of an administration that is beloved by many, hated by a lot and yet everyone is dreading what is to come next. And SCANDAL will return as well.

Have a great summer.
