It's been a week since last week's Season Two premiere of RESURRECTION and I'm still trying to collect pieces of my head due to the incredibly mind-blowing nature of the episode. Emotions continue to run rampant throughout the town and life doesn't seem to be getting any easier for anyone.
Tonight's episode starts off just like any great episode of television does: with a dead bird falling from the sky. We aren't quite sure what importance it plays, but we can be sure we'll find out soon. Caleb pokes the bird with a stick to make sure it's dead. Spoiler: it is. Magaret then calls for him to come help her clean the patio furniture. While cleaning, they have a frank conversation about death. As Margaret says, "death is fickle...it comes when it comes." It seems that Jacob is worried his parents are going to die soon because they are so much older. Maggie assures him that that isn't exactly true and if they do die, they might come back, just as they both did. Maggie plans on going to the factory later but then Jacob breaks the news that it's no longer open. It seems it's been closed for quite a while.
We then see Sheriff Langston pouring out/throwing away all of his alcohol...thank god, cause he wasn't such a fun drunk. He takes off his wedding ring and sets it on the table. Meanwhile, Bellamy has another flashback to the confrontation with the police officer that resulted in his death. It seems that between last week and tonight's episodes, Marty has taken the job offer he got from the Elegant Lady (Donna Murphy's character). He tells Maggie that he'll be a "part of the scenery for a while" but continues to hide the fact that he's a Returned and what exactly he's doing back. He gets a call from the Elegant Lady, who admits she's been keeping close tabs on him. He is to report to her if anymore Returned show up, which she isn't quite sure will happen. She refuses to tell him who she is other than "the person who was put incharged to deal with this." It looks like Bellamy and Sheriff Langston are going to have to work together, much to Marty's chagrin.
Over at Pastor Hale's house, Rachael gets out of the shower and proceeds to dry herself off with a towel with a J on it. She tells him that she's going to look for an apartment because she can't handle living in a house with all of his wife's stuff in it. He persuades her to stay in order to make sure she's safe. Tom and his wife haven't spoken in a while due to the situation with Rachael.
Bellamy shows up at the precinct and has a conversation with Langston about his new job. It's pretty clear Langston hates all intrustion from the government. He backhandedly offers Bellamy his resources and support. They both get news that someone is living in a hunting shack out in the woods, which leads them to believe Caleb is back. Remember Caleb? He's the guy who went on a massive killing spree last time he came back? Yeah that guy. It's safe to say that Bellamy and Langston don't exactly want that happening again. They drive out to the woods and Bellamy sets Langston straight about his relationship with Maggie. Although Bellamy admits that there's nothing there, Langston doesn't want to hear anything about his daughter. Langston tells Bellamy that he doesn't even want him thinking about Maggie. Bellamy then apologizes and after a pause adds, " I just thought about her." Thank god for someone having a sense of humor in this show! Langston didn't find that funny but I sure did.
We then go back to Henry and Lucille's where Magaret confesses to Henry that she knows the factory is no longer open. Uh oh, Henry...looks like someone is busted! Henry admits he let it go after Jacob died. Although he thought he would come back to it eventually, he never did. Henry then tells Margaret that she wants to take her to a doctor, but not just any doctor. He wants to take her to Maggie, who Margaret doesn't know is her granddaughter.
Back in the woods, Langston and Bellamy search Caleb's old hunting shack but find no evidence of Caleb's return. Langston plans to have Carl stake out the shack incase anyone does come by.
While in the church, Janine tells Tom that she'd like to come by to get a few things from the house...without Rachael being there. Tom reveals that he resigned earlier that morning because he doesn't feel like he can preach a "traditional Christian message" due to recent events. They then have a conversation about the possibility of Tom starting his own church.
Bellamy goes to see Jacob and is greeted at the door by Margaret. She tells Bellamy that she feels like they've met before, which is impossible. I'm no member of Mystery Inc. but I'm going to say that little comment is worth remembering. Jacob is in the backyard messing around with another dead bird. Gross. Bellamy asks Jacob if he's "sensed" Cabel coming back again like he did last time. Jacob says no and then Bellamy asks about anyone else he has sensed. "Only my grandma," he answers.
Janine goes back to her house to pick up the stuff she wanted to get. Before she leaves, she goes into the room Rachael has been staying in. She picks up the ultrasound and starts crying. That's why, kids, you should never snoop around someone else's room. It can only lead to bad things!
Langston goes to the cafe to see Elaine. Thinking he's there to apologize for last night, he reveals he's there because he thinks her father (Caleb) is back because they found some stuff in his shack and people have reported things going missing from nearby farms. She claims that he hasn't been in touch and that he's not back, because she would just know.
Back to Jacob and his dead birds. He digs up a box and slowly opening it expecting something to fly out. I get it now...he kills the birds to see if they'll come back like him! Sadly, the bird is still dead. Lucille calls him inside for lunch and they have a conversation about how Jacob was buried while Margaret was cremated. From the look on Lucille's face, I don't think she's too pleased that Margaret is talking to Jacob about this kind of stuff.
We then see Janine sitting in a restaurant with a friend as they talk about the struggle Janine is going through with her situation with Tom and Rachael. Her friend tells her not to give up on the marriage just yet and it seems that Janine hasn't.
Bellamy climbs up to the post Carl has been using to look out for Caleb with. Carl is taking a nice nap. Way to be on the ball, Carl! Bellamy sends him home and decides to take over for the time being. Bellamy has yet another flashback to his shooting. We get it...you were shot. Can we please get a new flashback? Marty then hears someone walking around the woods caughing. Thinking it's Caleb, he draws his gun and orders Caleb to come out with his hands above his head. Surprise..it's not Caleb! It's some guy who then proceeds to pass out.
Back at Maggie's office, he pulls herself together to meet her grandmother. This was by far my favorite scene in the episode. Extremely layered and so beautifully acted by both the actresses. Good news, Margaret - you're cancer free! Maggie reveals that all the Returned are coming back completely heathy. Maggie and Margaret talk about the difference in their generations and while Margaret is impressed Maggie is a doctor, she warns, "accomplishments are all well and good, but they don't amount to much without a family of your own." Is it just me or is Margaret kind of a sassy biatch? Bellamy then runs in with the guy he found out in the woods, who we find out is named Arthur Holmes and is also one of the Returned. Margaret seems to know him...bum bum bum.
On their way home, Margaret demands Henry take her to the factory despite there being nothing left. It's the old Parrish Shoe Factory from JUMANJI...oh wait, my mistake. She walks around the run down factory as she berates Henry for letting the factory turn out this way. He says he couldn't handle things after he lost both her and Jacob. She can't believe she gave up the Langston legacy and continues to yell her disappointment at him. He apologizes and claims he did the best he could, which then causes her to apologize for losing her temper. She can't handle being there anymore and demands to be taken home.
Pastor Tom is woken up by Rachael's screams caused by her nightmare. He goes to console her and is told that she felt that she was in a fire and about to burn. She tells him he "smells like home." Realizing him being there can lead to no good, he leaves the room.
Back at Maggie's office, Arthur wakes up coughing. Bellamy asks him if he remembers how he died to which Arthur replies "there was a fire...smoke...then nothing." Does this connect to Rachael's dream somehow?! Arthur doesn't know why he came back and wishes he could just stay dead. Bellamy then exclaims he has no clue why some people come back while others don't. Bellamy and Maggie then discuss how strange it is that Arthur came back sick while all the other Returned have come back healthy. He finally tells her why he's really back in Arcadia...to keep track of the Returned. She says she'll do everything she can to keep Arthur at her office instead of sending him to a hospital.
Tom is now back in his own room still awake when Janine comes into the room. They confess they've missed each other and end up having sex. Kind of weird with a guest in the house, but these are extenuating circumstances I guess. Janine and Rachael have a friendly, yet awkward run in the next morning. Clearly Janine and Tom are staying together, which upsets Janine.
Maggie sees Margaret at her office and questions her being there. Supposedly Margaret remembers Arthur as a worker from the factory when she was a little girl. Bellamy goes back to Maggie's office and is confused where Arthur went. It seems as if he completely disappeared like Caleb did from his jail cell. The lights start flickering...which can't be a sign of anything good, and then Bellamy sees the camera on the wall and thinks the government had something to do with Arthur's disapperance. He calls the Elegant Lady and demands he tell her where she took him. She claims that she had nothing to do with it and that has to find him and tell her when he does.
Margaret finds Jacob sitting outside upset after Lucille found him messing around with dead birds and yelling at him. Is no one going to call PETA?! Trying to make him feel better, Margaret tells Jacob the story when Henry broke her favorite vase. At first she was upset but after understanding that he was experimenting, let him off easier because it showed a sign of intelligence. She tells Jacob that his mother loves him a lot but doesn't understand him as well as she does. Clearly being a member of the Returned club fosters special relationships with the other members. Henry finds Lucille laying in bed distraught. She's worried that people will think something is wrong with Jacob and take them away from she and Henry. Overwhelmed she exlaims, "sometimes I just love him so much it feels like a burden...I feel like I'm suffocating." We then see Jacob light a fire under a bunch of the dead birds he has collected. He and Margaret then stand together watching them burn as the smoke rises. Yeah that's just what I want to see before an episode ends.
Back at the doctor, Arthur's blood samples disappeared just like the samples taken from Caleb. Something's definitely fishy here.
Bellamy then stops by Jacob's again to ask him if he knows about him being a Returned. After Jacob confesses that he does, Bellamy asks him to not tell anyone. Bellamy tells him he isn't ready for anyone to know yet and Jacob concludes that they really are different from everyone else.
In the final scene, we see Margaret digging for something in the run down factory. As she pulls the floorboards away, we get a shot of a bunch of skulls and bones. UM WHAT?!
Is Caleb back? Where the heck is Arthur? Who is Margaret looking for? Keep watching RESURRECTION on ABC to get some answers!
