Comic Book easter eggs a plenty on this week's episode of ARROW, "Guilty." Let's ready our bows and jump in:
Team ARROW springs into action to bust a major heroin deal, only to arrive to find all the gang members in the warehouse where the deal was supposed to go down are dead and someone has used their blood to spell out "Guilty" in large letters.
Back at the lair, Oliver (aka ARROW, played by Stephen Amell) tells Roy (aka Arsenal, played by Colton Haynes) to take the rest of the night off. Roy's head hasn't been in the game and Ollie figures Roy could use some rest (if it wasn't for all those nightmares where Roy sees himself kill Sara, aka Black Canary...).
At the Wildcat gym, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) is sparring with Ted Grant (aka Wildcat, played by J.R. Ramirez). He surprises her with a move that knocks her to the ground. She wants to continue sparring. He tells her to go home and let her muscles rest.
Back at the lair, Roy hasn't gone home. Instead, he asks Felicity (Emily Bett Rickards) to do a blood test for him. He thinks he still has some of the Japanese secret soldier formula called "mirakuru" still in his blood.
On mission, ARROW continues searching for the "Paco" believed to be responsible for the drug cartel hit. He scores a name (Emilio Ortega) and Felicity pings his cell's GPS and locates him "at 9th and Hasen" (Irwin Hasen was the co-creator of Wildcat). ARROW finds him dead with the word "Guilty" again painted on the floor in blood. The lights come on. It's Ted coming back to his gym. The body is in his gym. Laurel tells ARROW it couldn't be Ted as Ted was training with her and then they went for dinner.
Roy's test comes back. There isn't any "mirakuru" in his blood. He comes clean that in his nightmares he sees himself killing Sara.
Ollie returns to the lair and they go over the evidence. Ted is a former boxer who was nicknamed "Wildcat." He's a leftie. The victims were all killed by someone using brass knuckles who is also left handed. Ollie has put a tracer on Ted. When Ted leaves the gym, Ollie goes to follow him. Do you think this guy is guilty or are you just jealous that Laurel's spending time with him, Ollie?
In a warehouse, Ted gets the jump on Ollie. Though he's not in anything resembling his comic book costume, it's still our first glimpse at Wildcat in action and it's pretty cool. And it's made even cooler when Ollie drives an arrow through a boxing glove and fires it at Ted (yeah! It's the boxing glove arrow -one of the many trick arrows that Green ARROW is known for in the comics). The glove knocks Ted down. He tells ARROW he's being set up. He used to be a vigilante just like him.
Fun Fact: Wildcat made his debut in SENSATIONAL COMICS #1 (January 1942), the same comic in which WONDER WOMAN also made her debut.
Turns out, Ted beat a criminal to death six years ago and stopped fighting crime after that. And now, a killer is leaving clues (the body in the gym had a key around his neck that was to Ted's old crime fighting lair).
The pair consults with Laurel. Well, more accurately, Laurel and ARROW bicker while Ted paces awkwardly in the distance. "How do you two know each other," asking the obvious question of ARROW and Laurel. She tells Ted they used to date. And the scene gets more awkward.
ARROW still isn't happy with Laurel's decision to follow in her sister's footsteps and take up the mantle of the Black Canary. Ted and ARROW leave without her.
Back at the ARROW lair, Diggle (David Ramsey) tells Roy to suit up as they are to provide backup for ARROW and Ted. Felicity tells Roy he can't go as she has something to discuss. Basically, the force of the arrows and the trajectory were not from a bow. She theorizes Roy could have had some of the drug in him at the time of Sara's murder.
In yet another abandoned warehouse (are there any occupied warehouses in Starling City), Ted and ARROW are shot at. ARROW disarms the guy and chases after him as the cops bust in and arrest Ted for the murder in his gym.
Back at the lair, Roy tells Ollie, Laurel and Diggle that he killed Sara. Laurel is in shock.
She goes to the police station to confront Ted. He knows who the man in the mask is and she demands to know. It's Isaac Stanzler (Nathan Mitchell), Wildcat's former sidekick. Stanzler pulls a gun on Ted and Laurel as they are leaving the police station. It seems he has a grudge for Wildcat abandoning him.
It turns out Isaac was the one who murdered the thug six years ago, not Ted. He takes both Ted and Laurel hostage. Laurel manages to dial Felicity while driving. Team ARROW is soon in pursuit. The car crashes. Diggle saves Ted. ARROW tries to free Laurel from the crushed and burning car before it explodes. Roy and Isaac battle it out (giving Haynes to show off some kick butt martial arts moves). Isaac tells Arsenal that the minute he makes a mistake ARROW will abandon him just like Wildcat did to him.
Roy knocks Isaac out and tells ARROW "Don't ever abandon me."
"Never," ARROW replies.
Back at the lair, Ollie has Roy meditate. Roy realizes he is remembering a cop he killed while on the drug, not Sara.
Laurel returns to the gym, determined to finish her training. Ted reluctantly agrees.
Final moment: Isaac is being escorted out of the police station in chains when someone starts firing arrows. Isaac asks the shooter who she is. She tells him Cupid and then fires another arrow
