Happy New Year, Grimmsters! The show is back with a vengeance. When we said good-bye to the last GRIMM of 2014, we were left to wonder what might happen to Monroe, what Juliette's new condition might mean, and whether Adalind and Victor are coming for Nick. Not to mention Wu! He's so close to being in the club!
Speaking of Wu, the episode gets rolling as Nick and Hank arrive to get him out of jail, promising answers. They proceed to take him to the trailer and tell him everything, including the truth about Trubel, and he's overwhelmed but ready to believe.
Meanwhile, Rosalee becomes concerned when Monroe doesn't return - if you recall, he'd gone to take the officer stationed outside a sandwich and was kidnapped. She goes to investigate and finds he's disappeared, then calls Nick in a panic. Nick and Hank arrive and assure her they're going to find him, but in the meantime send her to stay with Juliette while they head to the station to speak with the cop that was supposed to be watching Monroe. They speak with Sean about everything that's been happening and take off to question the Wesen on their list, starting with Shaw.
We catch up with Juliette next, who is home alone and going all hexencrazy, breaking mirrors with her mind and whatnot. Nick calls while she's sweeping up the damage and upon hearing about Monroe she chooses not to share her special news just yet, instead focusing on Rosalee when she arrives. She tries to convince Rosalee to sleep to no avail, but does fall asleep herself. Rosalee wakes Juliette and freaks out on her, yelling at her to call Nick for an update. Juliette tries to tell Rosalee to back off, but ends up changing and fights with Rosalee, Wesen vs. Wesen. After Juliette rips out Rosalee's throat it becomes fairly clear this has to be a dream, but it's still a relief when she wakes and has a nice, sedate conversation with a very alive Rosalee.
Nick brings in and questions our old friend Shaw, who is quite dismayed to discover Nick is still a Grimm, but it gets him nowhere as Shaw refuses to talk. Nick, Hank, and Sean speak to Wu about what's going on with Monroe, and Wu agrees to help, though he makes it clear he's going to need more answers when it's finished. Meanwhile, Shaw returns home and receives a call that he is being watched. He leaves the house, only to be killed by the Wesenrein Grand Master. Guess misplaced loyalty really doesn't pay.
While investigating Shaw's murder, Nick and company discover a group photo including Office Acker - the very officer who happened to be guarding Monroe's home when he was taken, and who has been skulking around the station all episode asking to help with the case, since he 'feels so awful' about what happened. Upon investigation Wu discovers Acker has made several recent calls to the Oregon State Penitentiary, apparently to a Walker Williams. When they visit Williams, Nick and Hank discover he's a Wesen who used to share a cell with the Grand Master, Charlie Riken.
Poor Monroe finds himself locked in a room with another man chained up nearby, apparently in the same predicament, and watches as the man is dragged away by the Wesenrein. Monroe asks his guard - the Grand Master's brother - to use the bathroom and is beaten for his trouble, but that doesn't stop him from beating right back and doing his best to escape. Though he gives it a good effort, he's spotted as he tries to run and just after stumbling upon the impaled and charred remains of his old cellmate he is captured again. The Wesenrein drags Monroe out for his 'trial,' which appears to involve a lot of chanting and a nice, fresh, pointy impaling log.
Rosalee does manage to take a nap, but when she wakes to no news about Monroe she is determined to go home and wait for him. Juliette talks her into staying by showing her the list Trubel had made of likely Wesenrein members, and the previews indicate she's ready to take matters into her own hands. It also appears that everything will come to a head next week, as the trial commences with Monroe facing changes of marrying outside his species as well as befriending a Grimm.
Oh, and let's not forget our obligatory (and short) Adalind scene, where she is woken by Victor, and - surprise - he informs her they'll be going to Portland.
Now that things are really about to happen, what are you excited about? I can't wait to see what happens to Monroe, of course, but I'm also very interested to see Nick's reaction to Juliette's predicament. Will we see more of Adalind soon?
