CBS's new primetime show, SCORPION, is a fast-paced procedural drama based on the true-life story of super genius Walter O'Brien (played by Elyse Gabel, previously seen on GAME OF THRONES) and his band of insanely smart, yet incredibly misfit team of geniuses.

O'Brien leads a team comprised of Happy Quinn (Jadyn Wong), a mechanical prodigy who works well under pressure; Toby Curtis (Eddie Kaye Thomas), an expert who specializes in body language and can read anyone; and Sylvester Dodd (Ari Stidham), a statistics specialist. With such a well-rounded team, they catch the eye of federal agent Cabe Gallo (played by Robert Patrick, as seen on TRUE BLOOD).

After a glitch leaves dozens of planes without a way to land safely, Gallo enlists the team to assist the Department of Homeland Security with hopes that they'll find a way to successfully dodge a disaster. Although the group seems comfortable working with each other, they're still socially awkward when it comes to anyone else.

Enter Paige Dineen (played by AMERICAN IDOL and SMASH alum Katherine McPhee) whose young son, unknowingly to her, is a genius as well. Paige not only learns a lot about herself and her son, but that she can also help Walter and his team better adjust to the world.

CBS has a tendency to start their drama programs out strong and quickly let them fizzle; I'm looking at you HOSTAGES. Hopefully, with what seems to be a well assembled cast of mostly newcomers, and a creative team custom to packing in the punch, it'll turn out to be a success for CBS. The show faces tough competition as it's up against DANCING WITH THE STARS and THE VOICE in its time slot, but if this THE-BIG-BANG-THEORY-on-steroids-style show starts out strong, I may find myself committed.

The pilot episode, which was directed by FAST AND FURIOUS director Justin Lin, will air Monday's at 9pm starting September 22nd. Check out the official preview of the series below.
