As we begin the long six month wait until we find out who Negan destroyed on THE WALKING DEAD, we can jump into Los Angeles, where the crisis is just beginning in FEAR THE WALKING DEAD. Let's take a look back at Season One before we look ahead to Season Two.

All new relationships have their difficulties, especially that of two divorcees, so why not throw in the impending zombie apocalypse? Meet Travis and Madison, both divorced, both parents raising teenagers. Madison has Alicia, the golden child and Nick, the not-so-golden, meth-head child. Nick, meanwhile, fresh off his divorce from Liza, is trying to win back the respect of his son, Chris, who blames him completely for the divorce.

As strange (to say the least) things start happening, it is Nick that sees the evidence first, but why would anyone believe him? As it starts to come into reality that Nick may be telling the truth, the neighborhood is quarantined and the government takes residence. Lt. Moyers who has no sympathy for the residents and the soft-hearted Cpl. Adams patrol the streets. Chris, meanwhile, wants to be in the center of it all and gets caught in a riot downtown. As Travis runs to his rescue, they are trapped and wind up taking refuge in a shop owned by the Salazar family, Salvadorian refugees not interested in helping others. Daniel tries to refuse them, but his wife, Griselda, insists on aiding them. In payback for their assistance, Travis and Chris take Daniel, Griselda and their daughter, Ofelia, for refuge at Madison's house in the government occupied neighborhood. Griselda suffers an injury and Liza is recruited by a government employee, Dr. Exner who needs all the medical help she can get. She leaves Chris behind with Travis to aid in the crisis.

Griselda and Nick are taken away for medical care by the government as the rest of the families make a plan to rescue them and escape to the desert. Upon arriving at the government compound, they find that Griselda has died and something "odd" is happening to corpses after they die. In the "prison," Nick meets Victor Strand who takes a shine to him and agrees to help him escape. The two connect with their families and escape to Strand's getaway on the coast. Upon arrival, Liza discovers she has been bitten by one of the reanimated corpses and asks Madison to shoot her. Travis finds them and shoots Liza per her request.

For Season Two, there are a lot of previews involving water, so that can only mean one thing: Zombie Pirates!!! Okay, that may be wishful thinking, but we do know that there will be some footage on the water as the three families and Victor Strand attempt to escape the impending doom. So does this take them away from Los Angeles to another location or are we going to remain water-based?

We do know that Colman Domingo (Victor Strand) has been promoted to Series Regular for Season Two (and thank goodness... that voice!!! #broadwayguy). And Dougray Scott will also join the cast at some point as well. And even though we're 98% sure, the evil Lt. Moyers met his doom back in that high school, we never saw his body, did we?

I know there was hesitation about this series when it began, like is it needed? However, I think it very quickly found legs of its own. In Atlanta, we only saw Rick Grimes try to come to terms with what was happening and he quickly adapted as it became the norm. Here, we get to see people not only trying to comprehend what is going on, but how to navigate it and survive when there really is little information. Nick annoyed the crap out of me, but I think he can grow into an interesting character. Victor Strand is who I am most intrigued to learn more about as the series goes on. I hope he sticks around for a while. And imagine the circumstances of three broken families who are forced together in order to survive and depending on a mysterious stranger as a lifeline. I think they have set up a very intriguing premise and the characters are beginning to come into their own.

FEAR THE WALKING DEAD premieres Sunday night, April 10th on AMC followed by TALKING DEAD with Chris Hardwick (of course) to discuss the episode.
