GRIMM's fourth season is coming very soon - and hopefully bringing with it more than a few answers.
Let's recap where we left our beloved Grimm and his friends last May, shall we? In the Season Three finale, Monroe and Rosalee are preparing to wed, complete with drunken-dress catastrophes, touching speeches, and Nick's sweet shades (his "disguise" to hide his identity from the Wesen wedding guests). They will definitely ensure the wedding goes as planned with no uncomfortable Grimm-Wesen standoffs, right?
Meanwhile, in Nick's corner, Trubel is still around, lighting things on fire and helping Nick relocate the trailer. Nick shares stories of his family as they work, and Trubel expresses her discomfort at living off of Nick and Juliette while she figures things out. Nick urges her to relax and let him help, at least for the time being.
We find Adalind hard at work, of course. After inhaling some homebrewed Eau de Juliette, she drops by to chat with Sean. He warns "Juliette" about Adalind, advising her to steer clear of the situation, and watches in shock as she runs away after kissing him. Adalind shifts back to herself on the ride home and calls Juliette to warn her that Sean is becoming obsessed with her again. She offers to brew a potion to take care of the issue, which Juliette hastily declines. Sean then calls Juliette to tell her they can't be together, confusing her completely and leaving her more than a little annoyed by the time Adalind calls yet again to offer her assistance. She informs Adalind that she will not be home and that Nick will be preparing for the wedding all by himself. Facepalm and headdesk.
Once Nick is done moving the trailer, he is pleasantly surprised to find a lingerie-clad Juliette waiting for him at home. After a little pre-wedding "celebration" in the bedroom, Nick heads for the shower and Juliette heads for the door, alerting Trubel to...well, trouble. Trubel follows Juliette in time to see her enter a cab and become - gasp - a blonde. That's right, Adalind's been dipping into the brew again, and this time it's all about to get real. When Trubel returns home, the real Juliette and Nick are leaving and she is left to ponder what she's just seen.
Sean learns of a possible hideout for Adalind and goes to check things out, discovering her cauldron of terror and a collection of other artefacts. His attempt to warn Nick goes unanswered, however, as Nick is in the shower by then and misses the call. He bottles up a sample of Adalind's potion and hurries to see Nick in person, where he encounters Trubel and realizes it may be too late. It is, in fact, too late for him - he's shot by a Wesen before he can even exit the house. Following a quick beheading, Trubel calls for cleanup and takes the address and the potion on the run. Wu answers the 911 call and discovers some of Trubel's reading material, which naturally sends the poor guy into flashback mode and causes him to freak out. How much more can the man take?
Nick and Juliette drive to the wedding and engage in a heated argument about what Nick was doing while Juliette was at her hair appointment. They realize Adalind was the culprit and Juliette tells Nick she's not certain she can handle any more of his Grimmtacular brand of issues. However, the wedding must go on, so they table the discussion, Nick dons a pair of borrowed (prescription) glasses, and they prepare to celebrate with the bride and groom. The ceremony is beautiful and Nick attempts to share some meaningful glances with Juliette, but since he can barely see through his shades and doesn't have the best track record when it comes to recognizing her anyway, who knows if it worked? Monroe and Rosalee are pronounced Wesen and Wesen, and it looks like the wedding went off without a hitch... but here comes Trubel.
One can only imagine how well-received a blood-covered Grimm, sans glasses, might be in a room full of Wesen. Let's just say chaos ensued and discuss the part where no one is afraid of Nick, only Trubel - because, as Monroe discovers, Nick is no longer a Grimm. Trubel tells all - Sean's visit to the house and subsequent shooting, his discovery of Adalind's plan, the antidote Trubel brought that was smashed during the pandemonium... and as Hank hurries Trubel, Nick, and Juliette out the door, one has to wonder what sort of confrontation the newlyweds are in for when they try to explain all to their guests. Happy wedding day?
In the end, Sean is coughing up blood as he's rushed to the hospital and Adalind is on a plane reminiscing about her poetic revenge on Nick and dreaming of her baby. Nick and company are in the car, having fled the wedding, and we're left wondering - can he recover his powers? Does he want to? On one hand, being a Grimm is sort of his birthright, his connection to his family. There's also Trubel to consider, and the responsibility he feels for her. We still don't know how exactly they could be connected. But on the other hand, being a Grimm has pretty much screwed up his relationship with Juliette, ruined his friends' wedding day, put said friends in uncomfortable situations again and again, and caused a lot of problems for Hank and Wu. Poor, poor Wu.
News from San Diego's Comic-Con 2014 indicates that season four will, in fact, pick up right where the finale left off. We'll be introduced to some new Wesen, including an octopus man of some sort and an identity-stealing creature. We'll also be seeing more of Trubel, who will be back this season, and Captain Renard's mother is to make her debut. More information on the royal family to follow, perhaps? Speaking of the good Captain, despite his apparently fatal wounds there are hints that he will actually survive, and it seems we will finally discover more about the mysterious keys that have been discussed several times since the show's start. I'm looking forward to finding out what happens to Nick and the gang this season. I'm wondering about Trubel - she'll be Nick's Grimm eyes, so to speak, and I hope we discover what her relationship to Nick might be. Long lost cousin or even sister, perhaps? I'm also excited to see the new crop of creatures the show has in store for us. Which questions are you most excited to see answered? Let me know! In the meantime, check out what David Giuntoli has to say below.
