Anyone who watched the MTV Video Music Awards last night probably had the same reaction to Miley Cyrus' performance - 'Huh?' The singer danced and gyrated her way through her new hit single, 'Can't Stop', a song about partying and generally giving The Middle finger to society.

Following the number, the 20-year old stripped down to a nude bikini for the remainder of the act where she was joined onstage by Robin Thicke for a duet of the summer mega-hit, 'Blurred Lines.' As Cyrus provided backup vocals, she bumped and grinded against the much older Thicke, used a foam finger for, um, gratification and pulled out a variety of moves very unbecoming of the former 'Hannah Montana' star.

Celebrities reacted in droves on Twitter including Jesse Tyler Ferguson who posted, "I just watched the #VMAs & I know I'm going to have nightmares about Miley Cyrus playing a tiny harp where her "red light area" is." and Michael Strahan who offered, 'That was uncomfortable, weird and hard to watch!'

Serving as a guest co-anchor on this morning's TODAY show, Brooke Shields, who portrayed Hannah Montana's mom on the Disney series joked, "I was Hannah Montana's mother... Where did I go wrong?"

Shields, herself a former child star who had to transition into adulthood in the public eye added, "I just want to know who's advising her, and why (the VMA display) is necessary.... (Our children) can't watch that.... I feel like it's a bit desperate."

So BWW Asks, was Cyrus' performance innovative and entertaining or a desperate attempt to shake off the wholesome character who was responsible for bringing her stardom in the first place?
