The Broadcast Television Journalists Association (BTJA), an offshoot of the Broadcast Film Critics Association, today announced that it would be adding six categories to the second annual Critics' Choice Television Awards and will be moving the event to the Beverly Hilton for an evening gala on June 18, 2012.

Best known for the Critics' Choice Movie Awards, now going into its 18th year, the Broadcast Film Critics Association established BTJA and the Critics' Choice Movie Awards in 2011 on behalf of television journalists working in electronic media to celebrate outstanding work in television. In addition to honoring the best shows and performers from the previous season, the Critics' Choice Television Awards will also highlight the Most Exciting New Series premiering in the coming months, judging from pilots and early episodes.

New categories for the 2011/12 season include Best Movie or Mini-series, Best Actor in a Movie or Mini-Series, Best Actress in a Movie or Mini-Series, Best Guest Performer in a Drama Series, Best Guest Performer in a Comedy Series and Best Animated Series.

"BTJA was launched to enhance access for broadcast journalists covering the television industry as well as honor the best work of the previous season while highlighting the potential standouts for the upcoming season," said Joey Berlin, acting president of BTJA. "We were gratified by the industry support for our organization and our inaugural Critics' Choice Television Awards last year and pleased with how well our members' choices reflected the vote of the Television Academy. And the Most Exciting New Series selections demonstrated that our members, for the most part, reflect the preferences of the television audience."

The BTJA Executive Board includes: Michael Ausiello (TVLine), Joey Berlin (BFCA/BTJA), Debra Birnbaum (TV Guide Magazine), Jenna Busch (Zap2It.com), John De Simio (BFCA/BTJA), Michael Cidoni Lennox (Associated Press Television News), and Sam Rubin (KTLA-TV). The organization has 72 voting members.
