The Brian Banks biopic will be released by Bleecker Street and ShivHans Pictures on August 9, 2019, according to Deadline.
Directed by Tom Shadyac, the film is a true story about an All-American football player who went to prison for a crime he did not commit. Brian Banks premiered at the LA Film Festival, where it picked on the Audience Award. It stars Aldis Hodge in the title role along with Greg Kinnear, Sherri Shepherd, Melanie Liburd, Xosha Roquemore, and Tiffany Dupont.
Brian Banks (Hodge) was a HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL star who had committed to USC by his junior year. In 2002, his life upended when he is falsely accused of rape. Fiercely maintaining his innocence and despite any evidence to support the accusation, Brian is nonetheless railroaded through the justice system and sentenced to a decade of prison and probation. Ultimately, with the help of Justin Brooks (Kinnear) and the California Innocence Project, Banks' conviction is overturned in 2012, his name is cleared, and he is finally free to pursue his NFL dreams.
The screenplay was written by Doug Atchison, and the film was produced by Amy Baer with Shivani Rawat and Monica Levinson of ShivHans Pictures.
