Deadline reports that the Royal Palace has alerted the media via email that Kate Middleton, aka the Duchess of Cambridge is "in the early stages of labor." The baby is the first for the mom-to-be and her husband, Prince William, Duke of Cambridge.

UK media, along with broadcasting stations from around the world, including America's ABC, NBC and Fox, have set up camp outside the hospital awaiting the news.

Kensington Palace sent the official email at 7:30 AM Monday (London time) revealing that the Duchess travelled by car from the palace to St Mary's Hospital along with her husband. According to the BBC, no further official announcements will be forthcoming until the birth of the child.

Since news broke of the impending birth, CNN has provided minute-by-minute coverage while ABC aired a special report. In addition, ABC sent reporters from its morning show Good Morning America, including weekend anchor Bianna Golodryga, to cover the spectacle.

Should the new bundle of joy turn out to be a girl, she will be the first female firstborn of a future monarch to take precedence over a younger brother (Prince Harry) as heir to the throne.
