BREAKING: Britney Spears Quits THE X FACTOR

TVGuide.com reports that Britney Spears will not be returning as a judge for next season's X FACTOR on FOX. The pop star has quit the show in order to focus on her music and a possible tour.

A source told TMZ, "We have unimpeachable sources who tell us Britney loves the show but wants to focus on her music ... which she is doing right now. Britney is in the studio recording her 8th album, with some help from Will.i.am and producer Hit-Boy, the brains behind Kanye and Jay-Z's N***s in Paris." The sources maintains, "Britney loves Simon, she likes Demi Lovato but her thing is music."

In recent weeks, rumors had surfaced that Spears was going to be fired from the singing competition because the producers felt she didn't earn the hefty $15 million salary she had demanded. According to sources, they had already chosen a replacement judge who may be announced in the next ten days.

In a recent interview, Fox's Kevin Reilly shared that the network was pleased with Britney's performance on the show. "I thought it went very, very well," Reilly said. "It was fraught with unknowns, and I think Britney did a very good job. People are fascinated with her and always will be. Last year the ratings were a little bit higher, but I think it was a better show this year. I think she tucked in really nicely on the bench."

X FACTOR judge L.A. Reid recently announced that he would be leaving The X Factor as well.
