"Boxeo Telemundo Ford," the number one boxing program on US Hispanic television, presents the third fight of its Spring Season as Mexico's Carlos "Fino" Ruiz defends the WBO Latin Super Featherweight title against his countryman Joel "Jooe" Montes de Oca this Friday, March 11 at 11:35PM/10:35C from Mexico City's Blackberry Auditorium. Veteran sportscasters René Giraldo and Edgar López will analyze all of the action in the ring in a broadcast that will air simultaneously on NBCDeportes.com digital platforms.
Carlos "Fino" Ruiz (15-2-1, 6KO) had two outings in 2015, both of them intense. He became the WBO's Latin Super Featherweight champion in September after defeating Argentina's Horacio "El Látigo" Centeno by DU-10 in a surprise upset on the latter's home turf in Santa Fe, Argentina. In December, he went on to a D-10 victory over Japan's Hozumi Hasegawa, who holds fifth place in the WBO's ranking. "Boxeo Telemundo Ford" viewers "are going to like the way I fight," "Fino" Ruiz promises, "because I put on a show with lots of thrills."
Joel "Jooe" Montes de Oca (18-5, 10KO) - like Ruiz, a native of Mexico City and a professional since 2010 - has the distinction of having enjoyed a 14-straight winning streak until losing by technical KNOCKOUT in the sixth round to Cuba's Yuriorkis Gamboa in 2014, his biggest fight to date. Since then, Montes de Oca has fought only once, losing in 2015 to fellow Mexican Mario "Pocho" Pérez. He looks forward to Friday's encounter with Ruiz for a chance to resume his winning streak: "It will be tough, but it will be victory at all costs: I need to show my best face and get out there and win," Montes de Oca acknowledges. Not being the favorite doesn't bother him at all, he says: "I like surprising my fans, and I think it's going to be our night."
The final fight of "Boxeo Telemundo Ford's" Spring Season will be on Friday, March 18, also at 11:35PM/10:35C, when Alejandro "Payasito" Hernández takes on Isao Carranza for Mexico's National Super Bantamweight title.
